Updates:
- For a city to be able to build a settler, it needs a city size of '2'
- Possible diplo options:
"Shall we declare war against"
and "Will you form a pact of secrecy against..."
- Scouts move through rough terrain without losing extra movement points, even cross rivers without loving extra movement points.
- A promotion can also be used to heal a unit. (The promotion is lost in the process)

- Ruins can reveal the location of barbarian camps, even out there in the fog.

- The Civilopedia now also explains how to 'do things', like how to found a city, what causes unhappiness, etc. So not just facts like how strong is that unit, what does that wonder.
- Civilopedia has a search function to search the civilopedia.
- Ancient units will never be able to defeat modern are units.
- A city state at war can conquer a city and become a city state of two cities!
- Promoted units can be renamed!
- Surplus happiness is added towards the 'golden age' score. When it reaches a certain number a golden age will start.
- The Volcano is a national wonder, it does not erupt.
- Cities CAN be renamed!
- You can assign citizen to specific hexes in the city screen
- You can save stuff (like saves) to the 'steam cloud', and then have access to that save from any computer you have steam on! (there are 10 savegame slots)
- No pollution, deceases nor global warming.
- Unit list shows all units in your empire, and what it's doing (fortified, healing, etc.)
- Number of cities, number of supplies, number of citizen defined the max number of units your empire can support.
- They have a ctp2 style unit overview screen.
- Info screens give much information, like an overview of all civs and city states and there whereabouts.
- There's a history of all deals kept! Even from the past!
- The Diplo screens are much improved over civ4
- Citadel (created by Great General) causes 3 damage to any enemy unit that ends turn next to it!
- Japanese Samurai fight at full strength, even when they're damaged. Samurai also receive extra XP from combat.
- It's possible to save promotions, to use them later when needed.
- The music that plays depends on the circumstances in the game.
- Optics give the possibility to units to transform into transports when being moved into the water. There they count as civilian units and will not fight back when attacked by enemies. (it seems like the AI doesn't do this a lot)
- No random events. (Explained as a feature players dislike because of negative impact. Volcano eruption and nuclear meltdowns are named)
- Later this week the official civilization 5 site will give more information about modding and the world builder.
- Not the number of Great People needed will go up, every time you used a GP for a GA, but the length of the GA will decrease.
- Huge maps support 12 civs and 24 city states.
- The "Earth Map" that comes with the game scales with the size of the map.
- It's possible to open borders one way! (A demand from Napoleon to 2K Greg in this game)
- lots of programming time spent on good worker automation
- An epic screen is displayed and an epic quote is heard when you enter a new era!

Now Civ V is out for roughly 5 months and a lot of people have stated their opinion about the game. Some have expressed that they are content with the game, and that they have a lot of fun with it. Others - and seemingly the majority of players - have stated that the game is a failure in most aspects, and that they have put it aside after a few months or weeks even. I'm not going to give judgement on who is right on this matter, I'll just describe my own view on the game in general and most of all in regards to an aspect I have deeply loved with Civ IV - the Multiplayer side of the game.-

Greg "2K" Laabs has posted a new list of changes for the upcoming patch on the Official 2k Forums. This patch will focus on AI and Diplomacy. "First up is news about what the primary direction of the next patch is going to be: AI and Diplomacy. This is not to say that these will be the only parts of the game under the microscope, but it will be the focus. We're constantly looking at feedback on all parts of the game though, so keep your reports and feedback coming!" Greg posted. There's no ETA of the patch yet.

The Mongols Civilization and Scenario Pack- is a free gift from 2K for all the Civ fans out there. Due out October 25
The Babylonian Civ pak- gives none Deluxe version owners the ability to play as Babylonians (deluxe owners already have this) Due October 25th for $4.95
If you pre-ordered from D2D then your free DLC is due out in December. Sadly I don't have details on that yet but keep a eye on D2D's main page for the announcement. Hope this helps clear the air.

The first DLC for Civilization V will arrive on October 25th and distributed through Steam! A free new civilization and leader, Genghis Kahn of the Mongols, will be released together with a Scenario Pack for free! As a gift in answer to the "Civ Fanatics" who are "very well organized". Perhaps in response to the many troubles people had with Civ5 so far. That gift is highly appreciated!

According to a screenshot on joystick.com the Mongols ability is: "Mongol Terror", which means: "Combat strength +30% when fighting City-State units or attacking a City-State itself. All mounted units receive +1 movement points"
The Mongols have two unique units; the well known Keshik and the Khan.-

Having played Civilization I, II, III, and IV constantly since they were first released, and through the various incarnations of Warlords, Beyond the Sword etc., but having never played Civilization Revolution, I was looking forward with a great deal of anticipation to the release of Civilization V. I cannot remember the last time a PC release found me waiting in the damp chill of autumn air outside my local game store before opening, but Civilization V managed it. I know I could have bought it on Steam, but old habits... Having played the new version for the past few days, I would make the following observations:

On the other hand, individual units are now so much more important that they can be named as we've seen.
You could in theory contrive some interesting naming for orgainization... IE: Infantry Drill, Infantry Medic, Artillery Group 2, etc to keep things organized.
Also you are correct that naming will be more useful now than in civ4.
