When I first heard about CivII: MGE, I thought, why bother? I mean, we're talking about a game that came out in '96, and in the gaming world, that's ancient history. MGE is basically Civ2 with multiplayer, big deal! What they should've done is made it an expansion pack. It's using old gaming technology in today's gaming world. I mean, why get MGE, when you can wait a little longer, and get the latest in civilization gaming, SMAC and CTP. Both come with multiplayer, and up-to-date gaming technology.

I can assume many people out there are saying, "It's not graphics that matters, it's gameplay". Well, CTP and SMAC will have better gameplay. Activision is doing a great job with CTP, and Firaxis.....well, Sid Meier's the guy on the SMAC project. Microprose, however, is just dumping multiplayer options on an aging product and slapping a price tag on it. Yes, people, while you've all been in front of the computer, playing CivII for God knows how long, time has passed. It's time for the new stuff folks, not a rehash of the old stuff.
And, for all those who have doubts, I am a CivII fan, a dedicated player, but I accept the truth: the CivII dynasty is on the decline, but new things are coming our way! There is a future beyond Civ2.
