  • New Civ5 Steam achievements now listed

Steam has updated their Civ5 Achievement list. The additions give an insight into the contents of the upcoming "New World" scenario. Click read more to see the full list!

In addition to the extant achievements, we can now attempt to achieve:

Win the game with Babylon / Mongolia / Spain / Inca

    By the Waters of Babylon
*Beat the game on any difficultly setting as Nebuchadnezzar II.

    The Golden Horde
*Beat the game on any difficultly setting as Genghis Khan.

Nobody Expects the Spanish Inquisition (lol!)
*Beat the game on any difficultly setting as Isabella.

    King of the Mountain
*Beat the game on any difficultly setting as Pachacuti.

Mongol scenario related - 4 for difficulty settings, 1 for victory, 1 for loss

    Khan
Beat the Mongol scenario on any difficulty.

    Great Khan
Beat the Mongol scenario on the King or harder difficulty level.

    Supreme Khan
Beat the Mongol scenario on the Emperor or harder difficulty level.

    Kublai Khan
Beat the Mongol scenario on the Immortal or harder difficulty level.

    Genghis Khan
Beat the Mongol scenario on the Deity difficulty level.
    Khaaan!
Run out of time to beat the Mongol scenario.

"New World" scenario related - win with Spain, France, England, Inca, Aztec, Iroquois, and others

    Siglo de Oro
Win the New World Scenario as Spain.

    Tout le Monde Francophone?
Win the New World Scenario as France.

    Tea and Crumpets for Everyone
Win the New World Scenario as England.

    Macho Picchu
Win the New World Scenario as the Incas.

    Huitzilopochtli's Arrow
Win the New World Scenario as the Aztecs.

    League of Extraordinary Hoyanehs
Win the New World Scenario as the Iroquois.

I'm uncertain about the following "New World" ones:

    All Aboard the Orient Express
Discover a route to the Orient. (?? find a route to Asia through the Americas ??)

    Dr. Heidegger's Experiment
Find the Fountain of Youth (?? might be 'natural wonder' type of feature ??)

    Raleigh's Road to Riches
Discover El Dorado (?? see above ??)

    Au in the EU
Return a Treasure to Europe. (?? might be similar to Colonization style treasure ??)

and remember, you read it first on Apolyton!

In addition I would like to take the opportunity to shamelessly plug my frustration with the absence of the DUTCH in this scenario. Where would the world be without us? We did invent modern capitalism after all

It has also added other achievements like this:

      From Archaemennid to Safavid
As Darius, start 5 Golden Ages in a single game.

That one just showed up a few hours AFTER I finished my first game as Darius, where I got like a million golden ages, around 5 in the last 50 turns. Unfortunately I already overwrote the savegame when I noticed this

Btw, how do you get the following achievements?

      Tomb Raider
Pillage gold from an Egyptian city with a burial tomb in it.
      - I already did pillage many Egyptian cities. Either the AI NEVER builds burial tombs, or this doesn't work -

      Magellan
Prove that the world is round by uncovering a connected loop of tiles around the circumference of the world.
      - I already did this like a million times already - EDIT: Nevermind, I see that this has been fixed in the patch

  • Do you Ever Move Your First Settler?
    by Aeson
An interesting article at The Escapist about Civilization and some of the goings-on behind the scenes at Firaxis:

    http://www.escapistmagazine.com/arti...s-Civ-V-Studio

I have a lot of problems with the methods Firaxis tested this with. Turning off barbs, limiting AI expansion ... those are two critical factors for how big an impact waiting to found your first city will be.

I myself like to move the other unit first, see if there's a good spot to move the Settler to in a couple of turns or less. A river hill is is hard to pass up moving to. The extra production from the hill will pay off the first move very quickly.

How about you? In what circumstances do you feel moving the Settler is a good idea?...
