  • Apolyton has missed the release of Civilization V: Gods and Kings

Apolyton has missed the release of Civilization V: Gods and Kings, and with us the rest of the world except the guys from squidoo. If we believe them than Civilization 5: Gods and Kings "was released June 19 in North America and June 22 internationally." (Emphasis by me). So that was last year or what!

What else do we learn from them:

They have "some kick ass strategies" to win the game. Even so I just find the "Babylonian Science Victory" strategy in the article.

They mention that the combat system has been changed in two aspects, first you get now WW1 units, which is actually not a change in combat system but rather closing a gap in the timeline. The other thing is the introduction of new melee ships that can capture other ships, that's pretty interesting. Then there are huge tanks for land war and you get planes before WW2.

And the real substance of this article are the system requirements:

    Minimum Requirements

Operating System: Windows XP SP3/ Windows Vista SP2/ Windows 7
    Processor: Dual Core CPU
    Memory: 2GB RAM
Hard Disk Space: 8 GB Free
DVD-ROM Drive: Required for disc-based installation
Video: 256 MB ATI HD2600 XT or better, 256 MB nVidia 7900 GS or better, or Core i3 or better integrated graphics
    Sound: DirectX 9.0c-compatible sound card
    DirectX: DirectX version 9.0c

    Recommended Requirements

Operating System: Windows Vista SP2/ Windows 7
Processor: 1.8 GHz Quad Core CPU
    Memory: 4 GB RAM
Hard Disk Space: 8 GB Free
DVD-ROM Drive: Required for disc-based installation
Video: 512 MB ATI 4800 series or better, 512 MB nVidia 9800 series or better
    Sound: DirectX 9.0c-compatible sound card
    DirectX: DirectX version 11

I knew it was a typo from the moment I saw it.

Still...I figured I'd better check steam just in case.

It wasn't there. I was sad.

Well, if it was a typo then it was a meaning changing typo. And without out I couldn't make such a nice title. And without it, it wouldn't have been any fun writing about that article. Anyway, I fixed all the other typos my SeaMonkey spell checker could find. That happens if you type something using rekonq, while you are trying to get a Kubuntu running on your computer.

Well, back to some more serious content work on the Civ5 addon Gods and Kings.

  • Video Gamer brings more Gods&Kings details
    by Robert

VideoGamer visited a Civilization V: Gods & Kings 'behind-closed-doors' presentation during GDC 2012. They posted an article that sums up a couple of details about the new Civ5 expansion pack.

    Religion:
    • There are 20 different Pantheon beliefs to choose from, such as the God of War or the Goddess of the Hunt.
    • Your pantheon choice rolls into your religion, and you'll also get to choose between two more bonus abilities. The first is the Founder belief, which gives you rewards for spreading the religion to other cities, and the second is the Follower belief, which will confer bonuses to any city (and any civilisation) that follows your religion.
    • Certain units, like Pictish warriors for the Celts, generate faith when killing other units.
