Anyway, she makes some scuzzy remarks about how leaders have to have a real policy the little people don't get to know about, or something. Also she wants open borders. As for the Trump thing, it does seem to have finally forced party leaders to turn on him more decisively. Not clear what their options are at this point; IIRC they don't have the legal means to just say, "HEY PENCE IS OUR PICK NOW SCREW THAT OTHER DUDE."

Re: nuclear war, it seems fair to say that Trump would be far more likely to pursue cozy relations with Russia, and thus avoid nuclear war. There is, however, a chance that he will get into an angry tweeting match with the president of, say, Paraguay, completely lose his ****, and order a nuclear strike. At which point one assumes the chiefs of staff will exchange worried looks and gently inform him that no, we will not be nuking Paraguay. Which will trigger a wholly different sort of crisis.

So, that's our choice as a nation: pointless tree-pissing with Putin under Hillary, or who-knows-what under Trump?

(it's probably best to ignore Fez)
Nothing outrageous. Hillary as I said was not my first choice and is a decent candidate. We can kiss and make out... I mean make up... I got a little heated last night.

So you think the republican party can recover by 2020? The experts slightly disagree on the time frame.

One political scientist said on Saturday that the eighty-year time frame was “admittedly optimistic, but still doable.”

Reputable journalist Andy Borowitz (HINT HINT!) has published an article that the republican party could perhaps recover by 2096.

    • Demographics favor democrats and entire generations are now seeing the viability of the democratic party. Some people are pissed off. I'm immensely pissed off. I'm pissed off at Congress and the GOP. I assign blame to them for a lot of screwed up things happening right now. So to paint all pissed off people as right wing populists is not just a generalization, it's ridiculously utterly inaccurate. Right wing populism has been stunted.

Hillary is far from perfect, but the democratic party is immensely more popular than republicans in many ways. The democrats also have a new generation of leaders rising, particularly from California (Kamala Harris is one to look out for!) and even Texas (Julian Castro). Alex Padilla is another one who is California Secretary of State, and he is one that grew up in a working class neighborhood with modest means. The national demographic shift favors these candidates.

While a majority do view this country as headed in the wrong direction, but they put that blame on the republican held Congress which has approval ratings of around 20%. Barack Obama recently scored 55% in a recent opinion poll. He is even more popular than Clinton or Reagan. Some say "let him run for a third term". Well, we'd have to change the rules and I don't think the man wants to do that.

      Breaking:

Donald Trump defiantly insisted he would not end his campaign for the presidency, rejecting pressure from fellow Republicans to exit the race for the good of the party after the disclosure of lewd comments he made about women. In three newspaper interviews published Saturday afternoon, the Republican presidential nominee dismissed the idea that his campaign is in “crisis” and said there was “zero chance” that he would quit the race in spite of calls from multiple Republicans for him to withdraw his candidacy.

"“I’d never withdraw. I’ve never withdrawn in my life,” "

****ing idiot can't even make one sentence without sexual innuendo.

They gotta own him! he's their candidate!

              • So have you guys ever withdrawn in your life? LOL.

Or have you just employed the gravity method?

I wouldn't really know. Maybe you can help me out with Trump's statement.

                • There's no reason the GOP needs to be repulsive to women; they'll likely stay moderately pro-life but ditch some of the other stuff as they finish jettisoning what remains of the Religious Right
Apparently there are no religious right women that despise Clinton and abortion in America. So long as the democrats go hardcore abortion, prolifers will be a major part of the GOP. It's just basic math. The GOP has nothing to gain by becoming the democrats. I'm not sure someone who accurately states why many find Trump appealing has such a massive blind spot here. I find that puzzling.

You'll be pissed off at the Republicans even after you get Maduro'd.

Giancarlo, how are you gonna pay for all the **** you want? The money isn't there Obama's put the US 20 trillion dollars in debt, doubling the debt burden of the US isn't going to fix anything, although it will kick the can down the road just a little bit longer. The US is already carrying more debt than they've ever had - and that's *after* a restatement which assumes that they can measure the black market. Without the adjustments, we're staring at the largest Debt-GDP ratio ever.

What's your plan for paying all that off, Giancarlo? The problems of the US aren't going to go away just because there isn't a republican president. The problems are still gonna be there. Do you have a solution for all of it?

I think the GOP are the more repulsive of the two, but for the most part they've simply come undone while the Dems were able to hold together. If Sanders had succeeded, we'd be seeing a more symmetrical circus. And I don't know that moral ugliness counts for that much in American politics (possibly not politics in general). If Trump had appeared just as horrible but actually competent and focused, he would probably be at least neck and neck. We'll take tyrants, but buffoons are a bit much. Bear in mind that we're all pretty sure the Democratic nominee's husband grabs stranger-vulva as a form of casual greeting, and his own tribe are rather nostalgic about him.

(suspect you've missed most/all my earlier rants about the impotence of contemporary progressivism and its dependence on the Religious Right to give it the illusion of relevance; will not repeat now b/c this thread is sufficiently Eloked)

(you also missed the part where I'm trying to self-publish a SF novel; currently neck-deep in hopefully-final but very heavy revision stage)

Did someone say something? Oh wait... it must be the tumble weed dog.

He's blabbering about the debt and slobbering all over his face while doing it. Lying about how the debt even works. Obama didn't do that and has actually spent less than his predecessors. Why not roll back tax cuts on the rich? Oh wait... that would require getting rid of the GOP house.

Lying about everything in typical Ben fashion.

Do me a favor, big ****ing moron... learn how to make an argument and learn how to back yourself up for once with coherent statements. I don't talk bull****. I leave that to religious preachers and that orange wacko.

You are Ben though. Perpetually full of ****! And don't misconstrue my views. You stupid right wing sack of ****. People like you are part of the problem.

Sure. He spent slightly less than all his predecessors, combined.
