Really? You don't think that being a Judo black belt would help you there? You want contact.
Tell ya what. Take the head guy in your local Judo studio, and put him in a street fight with a 6'2", 215 lb ex con. I know where my money is probably going to be, and it isn't on the Judo black belt.
That attitude of yours, though, is the problem with martial artists - a lot of them think that their training makes them, if not invincible, then pretty tough guys. The reverse, though, is usually true. If you think about it, you are training in a controlled environment with simulated opponents and rules about what you and they can and cannot do. It would be like training a soldier in firearms by taking him paintballing, except more extreme than that.
Back to the topic at hand, my sister is a cop, and she seems to be fine. One of my best friends is a Dallas cop, and he has no particular problem with female officers, either.

Judo is a SPORT, not a combat system.
Judo included, are really only effective in the dojo against other practitioners, who are willing to follow the rules (for example, when I used a BJJ technique against a Judo practitioner, he cried about it being unfair), or against people either so inexperienced or so physically weak that it wouldn't matter anyway.

2. I don't particularly feel the need to be a 'tough' guy.

BK,
It's both, really.
Most MMA folks have some Judo experience. That tells me that it is useful in combat and more effective when combined with other techniques.
No weapons? I'd give that to my old sensei who was a 6'5 250 pound Russian.
1, I don't think I'm invincible.
2. I don't particularly feel the need to be a 'tough' guy.
The reasons for doing so are many. One, the padding in the dojo is a safety feature. If you were to take Judo out on concrete, I can't imagine someone getting up after a hip throw.
Two, the 'rules' are pretty much all designed to ensure that the participants avoid injury, no different from shooting regulations at a range.Follow me on Twitter: http://twitter.com/DaveDaDouche
