Women police are useful for dealing with women in situations where it might be inappropriate for men to be involved.
On a separate note, there is little point in canvassing Asher's opinion in any scenario involving women other than kitchen-type roles. The results are rather predictable.
You can't fault a man for being consistent.
To be fair, I wouldn't employ a woman in my kitchen. I strictly hire men around my house. And I'm not sure you'd be interested in my dress code.

I think the answer is "because few people want to be cops". Especially after they see what it pays. That's why they let the womenfolk out of the kitchens.
Meh, I have a friend who is a cop who makes over $100,000 per year and that's not bad for a guy with an AA degree.

This latest one pulls over a pair in a car for suspected DUI. She can't do ANYTHING other than wait for backup and point her gun at the driver, saying "keep your hands where I can see them" in a faltering, uncertain tone, over and over again.
I wouldn't have the gun out, but depending on the situation I might wait for backup also depending on the vehicle, number of times occupied, etc. The gun would be excessive for just a DUI stop though.
12 other cops show up as backup to nab this pair that hasn't done anything more threatening than use some bad language. All because it's a woman making the stop instead of a man.
Where was the show filmed at? Usually when 12 cops show up for a traffic stop, they're bored as **** or they know she's a SLAP.

There's no shortage of people wanting to be cops.
What does he make without kickbacks?
It's doable in big cities once you factor in overtime, court pay, holiday pay and pay from moonlighting jobs. A few years ago in DC you'd have to go down to court to paper cases for every arrest, so you'd be making extra money two or three days a week and a lot of guys were making upwards of $75,000 their first year out of the academy. I made about $100 to $150 of overtime the other night because I was the second or third unit on a homocide scene and ended up getting tapped to write the initial incident report.
As for lady cops, yes most of them aren't as physically strong as men and, IMHO, don't chase and fight guys like male cops do. However, a lot of times they're stronger when it comes to interviewing complainants, dealing with domestic cases (which are a large portion of calls for service, at least in DC), community policing, and dealing with juveniles. However, there are some female officers who are superb officers and with whom I'd rather ride with then many male officers. Also, regulations have evolved to the point in which male officers can't conduct full searches of female suspects for fear of lawsuits, so female patrol officers will continue to be pretty essential.

Should lighter built men be excluded from being cops, soldiers, and firefighters out of the concern that their enemies could outclass them in size of build/strength, and that they would not be as up to strenuous tasks as larger built men are?
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.
a) The difference between men and women is far larger than the variation among men
b) Yes, physical strength should be tested for regularly in occupations which require it
I think what MrFun is getting at is yes, MrFun should not be allowed to be a cop.

a) Tell me which one is likely to kick the other's ass - the 140 pound male police officer, or the 185 pound male criminal?
b) I have no problems with regular testing of physical strength for professions that require it (such as ones I listed).

a) I don't know the last time I saw a 140 lb male cop
b) I'd give the cop a decent chance against most 185 lb criminals. Meanwhile that 140 lb male is likely twice as strong as the average female cop

Then there is ABSOLUTELY no reason for them to be out on patrol by themselves, at night.
Interviewing, investigation etc. are different than rolling around looking for people doing bad stuff.
People doing bad stuff are often bad people and will not hesitate to attack a police officer. Now you've got a woman, by herself having to deal with somebody she can't control physically. Even if a suspect is stronger than a male cop, at least the male cop has a chance to hold his own for a couple of minutes so backup can get there. How long do you think it would take for even an average-sized man like myself to beat the crap out of the average female cop and take her gun? 15 seconds? She's going to know this, and will draw her gun much more often than male cops. If I act aggressive then she'll shoot in a situation where most male cops would be comfortable just taking me down. Male cops in the area have to respond to more of her backup calls, and they have to get there faster to protect her. Having a woman attempt this type of job creates emergencies where there don't need to be emergencies.

Timex would know better than me, but from what I see, most patrols are individual cops, with a fair number of pair patrols.
Unless the anticipated situation will definitely require two pairs of hands, splitting cops up gives twice as much coverage for much less than twice the price.
