I had 32 points to use when I made a character. *shrug*

Thinking Of Getting NWN2

"ATARI (Nasdaq: ATAR) is seeking stockholder approval to reverse a stock split to bring the stock back over the minimum $1.00 per share requirement by Nasdaq.
Why is this important? ATARI has been a big fish in the "interactive entertainment industry" since before some of you were a twinkle in your daddy's eye. ATARI posted a new loss for their fiscal 2007 first quarter of over $7.1 million and $32.8 million in the same period a year earlier. Since ATARI is a publicly held company (with 51% owned by Infogrames), having it removed from the Nasdaq would just about be the nail in the coffin for the entertainment company.
Just goes to remind you how cutthroat the video game industry is. You can be on top of the world today, and tomorrow your CEO announces your PC was just sold in liquidation. However, I wouldn't count ATARI out. If their financial restructure and development choices pay off, they will continue to trucking along and avoid the butcher's knife."
thar she blows!
just saw this on another site - hmmm patches for NWN2??

got this last night. It runs slow as hell on my computer though.
had to lower it to 800 X 600 which makes the text hard to read.
tried to find it at Best Buy, but they were sold out. I know I say this every time, but I am through with Best Buy. They never have what I want. I had to make the long trip out to Fry's. Fry's=god.

I have a 9600 XT (the card I bought to run oblivion died). And the game runs slow. I had to lower it to 800 X 600.Originally posted by Stuie
Ok - it looks like my system *should* be able to handle this, and the initial player reactions look good.
Now I just need a decent sale price. I refuse to spend $50 on a game.
Edit: Now I'm not so sure - looks like some "low end" Radeon folks are having problems running the game (I have a 9600 XT). Guess I'll wait and see....
Another edit: Ok - it looks like the XT cards should work; it's the earlier 9600 cards that are having problems.

it doesn't look better. This game looks amazing. Unfortunately I can't run it at the settings where it looks amazing.Originally posted by Jamski
I'm not sure they'll completely redesign the game with patches. NWN1 not only plays better, it also LOOKS better.

for a rpg (a real rpg) it looked pretty good. Obviously it was no oblivion, and I think most people are okay with that.Originally posted by Sir Ralph
I wouldn't call it looking amazing. It looks sufficiently well.
but now I lowered it to 800 X 600, it's not looking so good. It still looks more natural than NWN1, but the graphics are worse at that resolution.

in response to some bad remarks (though I'm no fanboy). The story supposedly gets better as you go along, we'll see about that.
As for controlling henchman, it does look to be possible. Is there an easy way to switch? So far as I can see the TAB key does nothing. I'd like it to either highlight ground items (instead of Z), bring up the map, or switch between characters.
Interface issues: It's a pain in the ass to talk to your own party. You have to hold down the right button to bring up the menu. Surely there is an easier way.
As for combat animation, I admit I rarely pay attention. Combat goes so fast, I had trouble keeping up. Bear in mind I only just finished the tuturial. So the only thing I've done is trounce those brothers in that brawling competition. Which brings up another point.
Yeah you can control henchmen, but even the biggest micromanager probably won't. Combat goes too fast. You'd have to pause all the time. And without auto pause like int BG2, it's just a pain in the ass. I think I'll just let my henchmen do their own thing unless I want to cast a specific spell.
And there are so many sub races and prestige classes, I can't figure out what to play.
I started off as a sorcerer (to a red dragon disciple later), but I kind of changed my mind and am going with a barbarian (to a frenzied bezerker later). But I'm still not sure if I want to go with a barbarian. I just can't make up my mind with this many choices.
. I also want to try a warlock.
And I can't seem to put my axe and shield into the quickbar on the bottom.

You shouldn't wield a shield as barbarian in the first place, except perhaps against bosses. Barbarian strengths lie in dishing out melee damage while being able to outlast their adversary, which is achieved by ample hitpoints. So a big bad twohander or a double-bladed weapon would suit your class better. About HPs, you get d12 as barbarian. By the way, so far my characters always took maximum automatically, up to level 8 - either they removed the roll in DnD 3.5 or NWN 2 is that way.
Being able to put both weapon and shield in a single slot is announced for patch 1.02, which was released and withdrawn again. If you are able to patch, that is. I am one of the many, who is not.

yeah I know, it was at the start. A battleaxe and shield were the only weapons I had to start with. I have since found a greatsword.
The good, I updated my drivers, turned off the shados and can run 1024 X 768. 800 X 600 was almost unplayable it was so ugly. Maybe it was only so slow before because of all the people in town. We'll see. I may have to do some more tweaking. I turned textures on low as well.
.
more bad. As Oerdin said, cleave animation doesn't work. Normally I don't pay that much attention to animations, but this is a glaring one to miss.
pathfinding is horrible. I click on a monster, but if that monster moves, I still go to where the monster used to be.
interface issues, we all know about these.
At first I thought my middle mouse scrolling was broken, but I turned down the sensitiviy, and that seemed to solve the problem.
The story so far is boring (but as I said, it's supposed to get better). Kind of reminds me of Bg1 story, in takes so long to develop. I played BG2 before BG1, so BG2 just seems so much superior imho. It really throws you right into the thick of the story. So I've been spoiled by BG2. Playing BG1 later didn't really hook me into the story. This game (and NWN OC for that matter) is the same way. I'm not hooked yet. Which is why I'm posting here and not playing.
But there seems to be enough good stuff to continue playing. But I feel I miss out on so much visual stuff the game has to offer because of poor camera controls. And the pathfinding is just aggravating.
Last gripe. I can't put away my weapon!!! Very annoying. I hate walking around with my sword drawn all the time. In NWN if you clicked on your weapon in the quickbar, it was put way. Click again and you draw it.
It seems to me they broke things that weren't broke in the first game. There are definately some improvements, but why did they change what wasn't broke?
