    @Oerdin,

what make/model is your CD-drive? might help others others here.

But yeah your comments kind of seal it for me - i hate being right about the fu*king disgraceful standards of PC development currently.

RIP Atari is probably nicer than they deserve

Man, Jamski is like the Caesar of the Poly RPG crowd. If he gives a thumbs down to a game, that game is dead meat, even though most reviewers on games sites liked it very much. Its as if they didn't play the same game...

That said, I don't think I want to get that game anymore...

I misspent my youth very well, what can I say?

I've updated my 6800 GT drivers and the game looks almost reasonable now (apart from the lack of ANY antialiasing in the game for some reason, and apart from the ugly ugly models)

Still the camera runs sluggishly, even tweaked to run as fast as possible.

There are "good" and "bad" ways of doing some quests (side with the watch or with the local thugs?) but the end result is the same - you move to the next step of the totally rail-roaded story.

Henchmen are no smarter than in NWN1. They follow the selected character about and engage in combat as they wish. Ability to directly control the party ala BG or IWD would be of great help. If Obsidian are going to force us to play the whole game with a 4-man party, then we need to be able to control a 4-man party.

No animation for cleave. Things just drop dead behind your character for no reason.

No "dance of death" animation between swings makes combat look REALLY stupid. Everyone stands still... then the screen fills with numbers and things drop dead.

The game is basically crippled by the interface, camera and control system. The graphics and feedback problems only make it worse. There's a good D&D game in there somewhere... but it will need a LOT of tweaking.

Oh, and like NWN1, don't bother with the OC.

            According to Gamespot:

You can have up to three supporting characters in your party, in addition to the occasional non-player or special character who will tag along with you. With a quick click you can take direct control over any of your party members at any time (as long as they're conscious),

I read a lot of reviewers say, on the contrary, that the main campaign story is very good (for a RPG) Some of them even compare it to BG 2 and Planescape: torment. Take Gamespot, for example:

Compelling story will keep you hooked for the entire 50-plus hours it takes to finish the single-player campaign

I would be already happy if the party commands would be draggable in the menu bar. I always had

              F9 - stay ground
              F10 - follow
              F11 - attack
(F12 - protect me ~ if there's a rogue among the henchmen, that makes him backstab)

Controlling that via drop down menus is hideous.

One relief though: They announced that dragging weapon+shield or 2 weapons in the same menu slot will be introduced in the next patch. Oh joy for my duelist.

Today I'll be looking what the bard changes look like. Some major revamp here. Plus, I haven't played a gay for long.

There are even people on the official forums *complaining* that this is more like BG3 than NWN2. For shame!

Nostromo: The OC is ok, it's just very streamlined and offers you very little freedom than to follow the plot.

That ends when you arrive in Neverwinter. But I found it pretty hard to solo. I'm playing hardcore DnD, that feels quite a bit. No chance so far to go up to hard.

Oh, and the AI is STUPID. I think even NWN1 had a better one.

I read that the new NWN technology models the AI on that displayed by the human player.

Incidentally, that'd be great. One thing I'd really enjoy is seeing my henchmen use the same gamey tactics I do - drawing out those kobolds one at a time to hit each one with a fireball + ice storm + magic missile combo, then call for a rest break just outside of visual range to recharge all of their spells.

Bards are a lot of fun now. No need to twist that blasted song anymore (and forget it most of the time). You have now a set of "inspirations", which are permanent, but you can use only one at a time. A LOT less hassle this way. I (level 5) have a +1 attack/+1 damage inspiration, a +2 AC inspiration and a +skillpoints inspiration (forgot how many). Numbers go up as levels increase, and there come new inspirations too (like regeneration at 7). Definitely neat. Then there is the usual music, but there are several songs that do different things; almost like a MMOG bard.

I'm beginning to love that ruleset. Shame the UI is so sluggish.

I found a bug in the DnD engine (unless this is a wanted feature, which I'm not aware of):

We all know from NWN1, that if a class has an attribute for spells (INT for wizard, CHA for sorcerors and bards, WIS for clerics, paladins, druids and rangers), which determines what spell level you can use, it will be set to 11 upon creation.

When I built my moon elven (+2 DEX, -2 CON) bard, the initial attribute was

                                STR 8
                                DEX 10
                                CON 6
                                INT 8
                                WIS 8
CHA 11 <-- the spell attribute

                                Points available: 29.

Since 3 points went on increasing charisma to 11, I should have only 30 - 3 = 27 points available. Or did they change the total of attribute points to 32 in DnD 3.5? Anyone knows?
