I was saying that perhaps you don't need someone to tell you how to have sex. If I'm wrong, sorry.

The accused still has their own rights which are not abrogated by the university. Universities are not immune to the law.

Men don't have a protected status, and they don't have a network of organizations defending their rights. This could only happen to men.

this addresses neither the post you responded to, nor any point made in this thread. it is also unclear and doesn't make sense.

            • COckney, I don't know if you realize this, this is not a collective decision by independent universities. This is initiated and being pushed by the White House.

Um yes it does. How civil courts weigh evidence has nothing to do with gender.

What's not to understand? The accused still have their rights. The university cannot simply decide to discipline someone for raping someone else based simply on the suspicion of it. There has to be proof. That''s my point here. That's why the criminal justice system gets involved instead of kangaroo courts - not only to ensure that those who are responsible face justice, but also to protect the rights of the accused.

                      • Also, in these courts you don't even have the right to question your accuser. Comparing it to a civil court is just ridiculous.

                            this is just guff.

how is a university disciplinary hearing about sexual misconduct different to a university disciplinary hearing about cheating on an exam?

I have no idea what your point is. I thought it was that using this standard was ok because that's what standard they use in civil courts.

Why can't you just admit that they have no real concern for justice? On top of that they seem willfully ignorant of research that suggests that only 3% of men rape.

How is a university disciplinary hearing about sexual misconduct different from a criminal court case trial for sexual assault? Very different. In the latter the accused has protection from false allegations, and greater evidentiary standards need to be met in order to secure convictions. In the former, allegations without proof are sufficient to establish charges.
