  • Not just the war, stupid...

    Let's just pretend to totally ignore Bush's complete and ongoing cluster**** in Iraq (I know it's difficult!), we have the following tidbits:

    Bush is anti Abortion to the extent that he has stopped funding international groups in some of the World's poorest nations involved in abortion - resulting in the needless deaths of thousands of women.

    Bush supports the death penalty to such an extent that as Governor of Texas he oversaw 152 executions. Most of any governor in recent history?

    Bush has ****ed the economy with tax cuts worth billions giving the most to the wealthiest, turned Clinton's federal surplus into a record deficit of $521bn in just four years. He is also the first President for 70 years to see jobs lost...

    Environment: According to the Sierra Club, Bush's environmental record is the worst of any president - ever! As well as rejecting the Kyoto treaty, failing to regulate CO2 emissions - he has actively opened up protected land wholesale to logging, oil drilling and mining! These include pissy little fields in pristine Utah desert wilderness whose total reserves would power the US for a day or two - but would blight the fragile ecosystem for centuries (National Geographic)

    Foreign Policy: Don't make me laugh! How to single-handedly piss of the entire world apart from Israel - even countries such as the UK and Italy, the majority of the population is vehemently opposed Bush and his policies! President most hated by the rest of the world ever!

    Gay Marriage: Bush is so anti gay he actually wants to amend the constitution to prevent them from getting married!

    Women's Rights: Eighty-five heads of state and government have signed a statement endorsing a 10-year-old U.N. plan to ensure a woman's right to education, health care, and to choice about childbearing. President Bush's administration did not sign because the statement mentioned "sexual rights." Apparently the Bush Administration doesn't think that women should have sexual rights...

    Gun Control: Well you can now legally get assault weapons again under his watch - also backed delaying background checks at gun shows.

    BTW a US soldier just got kidnapped in Iraq. Poor bastard.

              They're not. Which is good, as I would hate to live in a world where drugged up American pilots can go around clusterbombing Canadian troop formations.
              Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. Those aren't percents, they are numbers.

                    Some places in NH allow you to vote starting at midnight.

                    It isn't over by a long shot.

                        They just as easily could've been American soldiers.

                        • My vote is cast.

                          HUGE turnout at my polling place today -- in the 6am hour.
                          By far the biggest crowd I've seen in the 12 years I've been voting at this location.

                          As stupid as most of the campaign has been, it's great to see ppl getting off their butts and voting.

                            Thats a big to that.

                            But I voted for Bush in a "Battleground" state. Kerry will most likely carry the state, but only 2 (or 3, maybe upwards of 5) counties. Dane County (Madison, State Capital and big college town of about 300,000) and Milwaukee County (Duh, Milwaukee is by far the largest city in the state at around an even million).

                            Dane = Liberial = Kerry

                            (I'm gunna get slammed for this one...)
                            Milwaukee = Poor = Kerry

                                makes complete sense to me - you make friends more by promoting democracy, than by supporting dictators (turkey, which was already a democracy more or less before 9/11, is rather a different story) In afghanistan weve done a better job than Iraq. Afghanistan has had a successful election, and folks there are clearly better off than before we went in. Iraq is still in bad shape (whoever you care to blame), and alot of folks there are quite unhappy things havent gotten better.
