hehe - I'm working on it - given the lack of libraries and marketplaces, I'm looking into the feasibility of actually having an infrastructure

Robust constructive criticism? This is not bad at all.

Normally in an OCC game you are ahead of your enemies in tech. Being so far behind in this game, all white techs we own become even more valuable, in that we can trade for what we need with every nation on the board.

6 techs for Democracy and Engineering is not too bad.

Had we given the Aztecs Engineering, they would have only demanded Democracy.

      Edit:

You shouldn't be that far ahead! You gift most techs (except Astronomy, Theory of Gravity - until you have the wonders) in the hope the AI will research something useful you can exchange with them!!!

[Edit] obiwan18 - I'm not picking on you - just trying to put a point across Diplomacy is an essential part of the game and is much better in 2.42 than MPE edition.

        • Sombody had to start the dirty work

          First look:
          we have 49 gold, 3 caravans, 1 marketplace and 2 harbors (2 aquaducts, 13 temples, 1 colosseum)
researching Astronomy. We're mighty, so keying off of a democratic greek civ that we are at war with
Wonders: HG, LH, Shakes. Wonders lost: Colossus, Leonardo's (Delhi), Copes (Beijing)
target wonder: Ikes (need astronomy, University). Also high on list is Magnetism for happy people - wee need iron working (and warrior code if we can't get iron working from the AI)

Caravans: Fantasia (food), Matterhorn (food), Space Mountain (Salt, demanded by 2 aztec cities and Orlando)

we have 8 trade routes, only 1 city with more than 1

We've only met 3 of the 6 AI, peace with Aztecs, Ceace fire with Romans, War with Greeks

We have a Greek elephant at our doorstep of Caribbean Pirate - Greeks were allied before, no reason to believe they aren't now, so will likely be starting a new round of hostilities by defending ourselves.

          City Thoughts:
We really need libraries and marketplaces to get the ball rolling.
Main street isn't gaining anything from the elvis, since its going to grow next turn. Fantasia is not benefiting from elvis either, as the city has just grown

President SCG proposes a New Deal, whereby we will build marketplaces and libraries so that every household will have the money to put a chicken in every pot, and the knowledge on how to cook it without Salmonella Prosperity is just around the corner! 1

cut science to raise taxes. As it is with science at 40%, we are at 10 turns/tech (780 beakers). Since Copes has already been built, there isn't quite the rush for it now and we really need the libraries(science) and marketplaces (growth). Gold will also help in speeding the camels

880: Goes to work on the cities - removes worker in Anaheim to keep it celebrating after it grows. Removes workers from CP to keep happy without horseman in town. Various foreman activities and rush harbor in Donald Duck.
Kill Greek Elephant outside CaribbeanPirate, Greeks activate alliance with Romans and Aztecs. Horseman barely survives and not vet.
          900: various tickling of caravans
920: more tickling, no gold, contact enemies at war - peace with Romans with Medicine, Aztecs decide war is only option, Peace with Greeks for Medicine
940: Library in Magic Kingdom, more tickling, foreman work
960: someone discovers Magnetism, cancels our Lighthouse , Chinese start Adam Smith's, more tickling and foreman work, marketplace in Anaheim
980: Temple in CaribbeanPirate, celebrations commence, Aztecs arrive outside Space Mountain, Caravel takes them for a ride, Greeks and Romans follow through with their obligations again... o well, at least we have a musketeer and horseman in CP this time, Salt to Xochicalco (120), more tickling and work
1000: Aztecs have units on the land mass south of Space Mountain, more tickling and building
          1020: Temple in Tiki City

Final thoughts: leaving some of the final decisions of the turn to [1]. With 20% lux, i was able to get all size 3 cities to celebrate, most to 5. with Marketplaces, those cities can celebrate to 7, and with trade routes, we can start looking to aquaducts. There are 3 caravans sentried in Tomorrowland, 2 of which can get on the Magic Kingdom caraval, and 3 more sentried in DisneyChina - I was thinking about building a caravel there but wound up starting the library. We really do need magnetism, but felt we needed infrastructure more. Granted, I only built 7 structures in 8 turns, mainly because i had to finish so many camels first. We're short on transportation for some of them, but do have about 7 lined up for international deliveries. Only structure I'm second-guessing right now is the bank (48 shields so far) in Magic Kingdom, even though caravans would have likely had to be local deliveries. Also debating the usefulness of the temporary peace with the Romans and Greeks, given that we don't have the techs to end a war with the Aztecs. On the plus side, we're back up to Supreme, starting from Mighty
Anyway, passing the Torch to [1]

Yeah ... those "Fireside chats" of FDR would be drowned out by the noise of the vacuum cleaner.

At first, I thought you'd mispelled Mike's, as most of us call it Newt's.
Also, I should think Mag's would be more critical. It gives you something you can't get by any other means (+2 movement for ships).

                        Exactement
(apart from the poetry in the English phrasing )
There are also bird hunters in France, but I don't think they have given much to French poetry...

Is that a sly reference to the fact that we're already on Page 15 of this thread?

Anyway, just skip ahead if it comes to my spot in the rotation. I'll just jump in at earliest oppty after travels are complete...

                            No worries, mate.

SCG, why not Mike's chapel? Were you not offered Monotheism?

If we don't get on the ball, we will lose one of the better wonders, especially for a Democracy sleaze.

Not really, I was just considering the speed the game has progressed so far.

With only 8 turns to play, and science taking 10 turns on the setting i was given, I decided to work on infrastructure at the expense of science (and built a lot of caravans as well), so, no - Monotheism was not offered - mainly because i would have needed 1-2 more turns to discover my first tech
