  • Democracy by 380 AD?

    That's not too bad.

    Pretty soon we can

Edit: forgot which Sxn game for a moment. Almost asked for a Fundy gov't.

    • I mentioned earlier that my predecessor had sent a Settler up to a 3-special (+hidden 4th) site North of DisneyChina. Note that I changed the spurious Bab city names. Even I am not that lazy!

I made the Set improve the site and was going to mine the hidden special but decided not to commit the Set to that task.

Note also, there is a hidden special immediately NE of NNLand and another immediately NW of DisneyChina.

      • Found time to get started last night, but unfortunately was unable to finish due to family matters. Here's a brief preview for the masses.

--We did in fact make a successful switch to Democracy in 380 AD!
--Parleyed with Romans, who declared war. Killed their cat, but they landed an ele that leveled a now-forgotten city.

--I chose to start a city with that settler. We can mine the special later...

Thanks for posting -- hadn't noticed. Also failed to notice a couple sleeping camels in Donald Duck.

Much celebration happening, and we get Mysti next turn, so we should be able to continue that trend at a lower Lux setting.

Also amused myself by building a canal...

Sorry I fell asleep... Will finish and post tonight, so our young Jedi knight should gird his loins.

Q -- As we go to Round 2 of the rotation, how many turns?

Much obliged JRabbit, although I prefer the older obiwan, not the new young one. That character suits me better.

                      • The Rabbit Report

Well, yesterday's session seemed to go really well and i was all enthused.
                        Today... not so much. (sigh)

320AD -- The mighty Rabbit takes the seat of power. Notes Greek city in SE section of pharsalos Island. Notes lovely 2-whale island to the north. Jiggers a few production orders. We parley with the Romans, they declare war. Our horsie takes out their encroaching cata, makes vet. Romans activate their Greek alliance. At war with them now, too. Buy temple in Tomorrowland before it grows.

340AD -- Roman elephant spotted between Orlando and Frontierland. Send 2 horses to Orlando, one to Frontierland. tax slider to 60%.

360AD -- Ele sacks Frontierland, leaving an embarrassed horse, who kills the 'phant. Anaheim founded north of Disney China. Temples rushed in eurodisney, Disney China. REVOLUTION!!! (Press NEXT to die...)

380AD -- Donald duck complete temple. Democracy chosen. sliders to 70 Lux, 20 Tax, 10 Sci. Greeks go for peace. They request Engineering --but why would they need that when they're researching Gunpowder? romans demand Democracy, don't get it. We get WAR. Seven cities primed to celebrate. current pop = 810,000 (6th).

400AD -- Indians start leo's Workshop. tickling, ready to grow.

420AD -- Population now 1.15 MM (still 6th). Mickey founded. wandering gold van finds hut, worth 50GP.

440AD -- Two celebrations halted -- need those temples! Mouse founded, thus completing the Mickey Mouse canal. EuroDis wine to Steamboat willy, 77GP. workers shuffled. Pop = 1.45 MM (5th).

460 Ad -- hides from Steamboat Willy to DisneyChina net 60GP. Much shuffling of workers. now have 6 temples, 4 more in progress. Pop = 1.71 MM (3rd).

480AD -- Mysticism is ours. Choices include Mathematics, monarchy, Philosophy, Polytheism, Seafaring, Warrior code. We need harbors, explorers. So Seafaring nest. try dropping to 50% Lux, science up to 30 (7 turns).

500AD -- Greek trireme seen wandering near Anaheim. Celebrations end. move sliders to 40-40 w/20% tax.

520AD -- wandering camel finds another hut with NOMADS inside. Heads to 4-special spot to start anti-Greek outpost. camel heads toward missing Greek city SE. Greeks parley, declare WAR!

540AD -- The end of Rabbit's reign. Greeks switch to Monarchy. toynbee sez were the 2nd largest civ. Greeks are mediocre, romans pathetic. greeks get Gunpowder from Romans -- disney china reaches size 3, celebrates. Trireme heads north with settler to found new city.

Much to do. Need cashflow to build a few key temples. we're WAY behind in tech. But we have the power of Democracy and a spotless reputation to see us through!!

                        Obiwan is next...

                          • Thanks, [1].

I wasn't particularly happy with all the outcomes. but at least we made it safely in Democracy, built the Lighthouse, and built up the pop. a bit (2 size 8s).

One weird thing was tech selection. choosing between Math and Nav was a tough choice. Very weird to sudenly realize that Monarchy is a worthless dead-end tech!

Probably should have kept working settlers instead of building cities. But I couldn't resist building the Mickey Mouse Canal!

Poor management of happiness in the home city of our lone trireme. I foolishly let it build a camel -- should have sacrificed the shields and switched to temple.

We have a couple camels lying around with nowhere profitable to go. It is hoped that the Lighthouse will change that, and boost exploration as well. Looks like Pharsalos could be a repeating Hides destination, with our capital as a source.

There are also a lot of techs available for trading/stealing, and since both Greeks and Romans want war, we might consider a diplomatic mission or two.

BTW, has the Institute decided on the appropriate punishment for besmirching our spotless reputation?

Maybe I was sleepy, but I swear this happened. If Engineering is a prereq for Gunpowder, how could the Greeks be researching Gunpowder at the same time they're demanding Engineering during diplomatic talks?

(Easiest explanation is the -Jrabbit just doesn't know the tech tree very well. Can anyone set me right here?)

Is this why you didn't accede to their tech demands?
