[scampers around looking for something to double-check harddrive integrity]
Seems to be too much of that going around for comfort.(\__/) Save a bunny, eat more Smurf!

Nearly pointless post (+1)
I remember back in the old days…
[flashback; cue harp arpeggio]
I was putting my first computer together and had been diligently studying things computerish. I discovered that MFM and RLL drives were exactly the same except to the way the data is encoded. Yeah, sure, Seagate puts the RLL drives through an extra set of tests and a few percent more fail.
They say that using an MFM drive on an RLL controller voids the warranty. But they also say using an RLL drive on an MFM controller voids the warranty, which could not possibly do any harm. Except, of course, reveal the industry secret that consumers could get more for less.
So I figure, why am I spending $150 (the cost difference between the ST251 and the ST277R) for a 90 day warranty that is worthless?
[/flashback; cue harp arpeggio]
Boy, did I feel like I'd beat the system on that one! My Frankendrive served me well for six years.(\__/) Save a bunny, eat more Smurf!

The doctor returns
The doctor returns, or: how I learned to stop worrying and love the hard drive.
Unfortunately there was a brief delay in start of the second reign of the doctor, due to a strange illness hard to diagnose with the backward medical techniques of our time. But finally all is well, and he steps up to take charge, as is fitting.
1500: taxes at 70%, the strategy seems to be one of cara's and diplos to 'acquire' research from our friendly neighbours. But the treasury is at 2000.........the pork-barrel overfloweth, but where are all the pigs?
The doctor launches his comprehensive spending review; there is something for everyone.
1510 - Aztecs make laughable threats. Settler and diplo produced. NONE cannon acquired from aztecs.
1520 - 3 diplos, 4 caras. Monotheism discovered, Theology chosen. Beads to Pharsalos and Mycenae 72 and 32 respectively.
1530 - Cara and Musket produced. Cara to Tlacopan 40 gold.
1540 - Tlaxcala 62 gold. 2 cara, 1 settler produced. Galleon produced.
1550 - Chemistry borrowed from Romans (Antium).
1560 - MK 27. 3 caras produced. 1 galleon
1570 - Beads to Mycenae (32). Gold to Pharsalos (36). 2 caras produced.
1580 - Barracks in Carribbean. 3 caras produced. Beads to Tlaxcala (68). Wltkd next turn in Anaheim.
Thus the reign ends. Trade is looking better, and many diplos are out questing for knowledge. Soon we can build JSB and this will be very useful for the upcoming 'clad churning phase.
Over to the errant archer.
