    • I encountered a nasty bug this morning, the so called "Module unpacking..." (but nothing happens) bug. This means a thoroughly corrupted savegame. With luck you can repair it in a halfassed way by copying details from other saves into it, but no avail for me. It is well known and there's not much you can do other than to replay an older save. Cost me all I had played the day before. Replayed it today, and hosianna, now the bug is gone and I can play further.

There's a patch in the making, 1.03, the public beta of which will be released next week. It is supposed to tweak cameras (good), to introduce slots for weapon/shield, weapon/weapon and weapon/torch combos (as in NWN1, that was still missing) and fix a whole lot of unpleasantries. Hopefully the bug described above too.

Overall I enjoy playing, if you can say that with a game that crashes every hour or two, and which has some other nasty bugs. There's definitely a good game hidden in this mess. Hope they dig it out, and quick.

        • Mmm. For what it's worth I'm inclined to get in the 'not until the first or second expansion' camp.
I can beat the system req's but I have very little tolerance for corrupted savegames and the like. To much time wasted like that and it seems more of an endurance than an enjoyment.
Besides which, I'm not really a fan of having to start a new character for any player-made modules after I hit level 20 in the OC, nor would I particularly want to keep my old character around for 6 months thereafter until he can start levelling (I really hate that word - makes me seem like a powergamer ) again ...

          • Well keeping your character around is no big deal - you wont have to keep all the saves.

And trying out new characters for new modules is fun.

Personally on NWN I always find the first 15 levels or so the best - after that a well built character starts pwning everything with no challenge.

Usually the term is minimum, in English. Minimal usually implies small.

                  Yep, same here.

In NWN2 I just got to level 15 and am still in the thick of chapter 2. Word goes, you can reach 20 in the OC (which was nearly impossible in NWN1).

                    • haven't been playing, probably play after the next patch comes out.

I'm still too much into civ4. I love that damn game.

                        Try this next time:

I haven't encountered this myself, nor have I had any crashes. In fact, other than the crappy framerate I'm getting from my 9600xt, the game has been mostly bug-free for me.

                        • I had tried this, but it didn't help me. You may imagine I tried all kind of stuff before I decided to throw away a whole Saturday worth of gameplay.

                          • Did you try swearing really loud at your monitor? I often try this, and it doesn't really work, but it does make you feel a lot better (and it's better than me mashing my keyboard).

                            • Trust me, I am very good at this exercise. My wife can tell stories about it. Not quite as entertaining as Theseus, though, who once sprayed a glass of whisky over his screen because he lost a 99% odds combat in Civ3.
