It's not that piracy doesn't hurt sales, it does, its just that the movie studios and various game publishers continue to try and resolve it with badly thought out measures which reduce the paying customers experience as a result.

Hell, when you pay through the nose for a game or movie and then they force you to sit through 5 minutes of anti-piracy messages, when the real pirates are just watching the movie without all the crap, what message does that send?

    • JUST GOT ON A SERVER. NO LAG AT 4 AM. PLEASE DO NOT TELL ANYONE THIS I DONT WANT PEOPLE KNOWING THIS BUT THE GAME PLAYS WELL AT 4-5 AM IN THE MORNING. I would go so far as to say this is how the game was meant to be played because your senses are heightened with sleep deprivation. For example I now notice and I love that the garbage trucks visibly stop at each house and remove the garbage bags after the Sims take out the trash. I also love how vocal Sims are when the city falls into chaos.

        • Finally got the game and it runs. I did have a few "minor" issues... Minor meaning that the game was in Russian, a language I can't read at all...
I contacted EA, they told me to buy the game from a different store so I could get the danish version. Considering that there's no way in hell I would want to play the game in danish I told her that I only live here, but can't speak danish and I can't order the game from USA. After some time she decided to give me a new code. Now I finally have the game in English, woohoo

Only played a few hours so far (and a few hours in the first beta). While the game is interesting there a sure some negative things to say about the game:
          - The always-online DRM... come on, this is a SP game!!!
          - It is too easy to get money. Even though I'm building a crappy town I still have a great income and everybody is happy
          - No terrain editing
          - The cars and trucks are driving around weirdly. I have seen 5 garbage trucks driving behind each other driving down a road with only one house with garbage, while the rest of the city is filled with garbage. They also keep on driving down roads where they have no business (kinda looked like a lost tourist)
This space is empty... or is it?

IT IS NOT AN SP GAME THE PRICES IN THE GLOBAL MARKET FLUCTUATE BASED ON SUPPLY AND DEMAND

MONEY DOES NOT MAKE A GOOD CITY ANYONE CAN BUILD A PROFITABLE **** VILLE B THE CHALLENGE IS A PROFITABLE METRO POLICE

WERE THE GARBGAGE TRUCKS GOING TO THE END OF A ROAD TO DO A UTURN? ALL CARS TO MAKE A UTURN MUST GO TO END OF ROAD.

I saw the trucks (garbage trucks, firetrucks, any truck) going to the end of the road to do a uturn, then back to the other end and do a u turn, then back to the first end and do a uturn again

I also had a circle road with one exit. Once the firetrucks went in and took out the fire somewhere in the middle of the circle road. When they where done they took a few turns around the circle, passing the exit a few times before it finally desided to go out from there

                    • Sooo, got some time off work now. The Server where I was building up my cities for a few hours is too busy to join. Join another server in the same region, and my cities don't carry over, and I have to do that annoying tutorial again.

Yeahhhh... I'm gonna watch a movie in the meantime.

                      • And I can't stay connected to any server for longer than 15 minutes anyway. I'll try again in a few days I guess.

Check back when you get above 50k people. Let me know how your traffic is then.

                            • From Rock, Paper, Shotgun:

Since around two o’clock, when I finished the bulk of this feature, I’ve been unable to access the server that is storing my cities, even though it’s listed as ‘available’. The other European servers are ‘busy’, which means queuing to play. I can access one American server at the moment, which would involve starting from scratch and then either continuing with that or abandoning it at a later date and returning to my original developments. I remember keeping Amiga save games on floppy disks, all neatly labelled and stored within reach. This is like the time the dog ate the disks, except EA will probably regurgitate something in a few hours.

                              • Also, the new "fix" disabling cheetah mode does make the game unplayable. The fastest the game runs now is 1 hr game time in 30 seconds. So if your early city is making $500 every in game hour, it takes 20 minutes to make around $20k (enough to buy a hospital, for instance). To get a fully functioning city with police, fire and health care? That's going to take hours. And that's with you not expanding your city at all during that time. I'd suggest leaving the game running all night, but you'll get disconnected long before your city makes any amount of useful cash.
