Note that I don't think it is a(n obvious) sign of mental illness for a man thinking he should wear dresses, take care of the children, or whatever other 'gender' activity he desires to do.

Why should this squick you out? I presume you are not squicked out by gay men based on thoughts about what they do together in a bedroom.

I'm squicked out because gender underpins our relationships in a fundamental, albeit often very subtle, way. For example, I tend to act slightly differently towards little girls than I do towards little boys, even though I feel no sexual impulses towards either. You can see most people do the same. Gender roles, tyrannical or not, are drilled into us right down to the core, by biology and society alike.

So, when someone presents...uh, theirself as a female when I can tell they are a male, it sets a part of my brain screaming "LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE." This, I contend, is an entirely normal reaction that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with sex. And I'm not going to be ashamed of it, though I realize these people can't help it. Like I said, allowing the mutilation is about the kindest option under the circumstances.

Animals aren't even part of human society so I really don't think anyone is asking to be treated like an animal.

Pretty reasonable, given other views expressed by other people. I'd just like to ask if the brain is female, but the body is male which is the lie? Brain and mind, or body?

Also, for people who begin the process pre-puberty I'm doubting very much that you would ever suspect they have been born a sex and raised a gender different from what they present to you.
