That's all you were trying to say? NO! That's not what you were saying AT ****ING ALL!Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostThat's all I was trying to say and I'm glad another poster posted it. If people have to go South to find freedom, doesn't that speak volumes?
YOU SAID THE SOUTH WON THE CIVIL WAR!

Ben, did Mexico win the Mexican-American War?Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostPartially, yes, but that doesn't explain places like Arizona, Texas or Florida having tremendously more influence now than pre 1860, or even pre 1950. With trends as they are, TX could eventually exceed CA in population. CA's growth in the past 10 years has been very flat."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

The freedom actually work without being a slave to a union. This has the effect of increasing worker take home pay (through not having to pay union dues), and decreasing employer costs at the same time. You mean the freedom to have the government tell an employer that they can't make a specific type of contract with a union?

That anyone would be so brazen is mind-boggling to me. People already have that freedom, since no one is forced to work at a union shop. If they don't like working at a union shop, they can just quit their job and look for work elsewhere.Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostThe freedom actually work without being a slave to a union. No, fool! The collective bargaining agreement most definitely provides them with an inflated wage that more than makes up for the cost of the union dues. The issue is that by paying these above market rate wages, companies (and the unions themselves) are more restrictive on hiring.Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostThis has the effect of increasing worker take home pay (through not having to pay union dues.
Being in a union is, on average, materially beneficial to the employed worker since a CBA gives the average worker more bargaining power than themselves alone. That doesn't mean it's good for exceptional employees, the company, the consumer, the economy, or anyone else."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

I rather like the fact that I can work where I want to work and unions can't do jack. Why are you defending slavery?People already have that freedom, since no one is forced to work at a union shop. While I would agree that ostensibly the war was fought over slavery, I think your average Johnny Rebel was probably fighting for his homeland against the invading Yankees and for the perceived violation of his state's sovereignty. So the question is, traitors to who? Certainly not to their homes.
