Someone says what is true that the South lost the Civil War and the Ben Kenobi mind is all like, "I just need to argue against this fact of history!" and somehow thinks "Hey! Population statistics 150 years after the war means the South won because.. because... I win thread!"

Hey, Ben, by your own claims, people have left the North and settled in the South... sounds to me like these carpetbaggers are proof the North won. Just as the White man conquered the lands of the American Indians and settled in those territories... just as the Romans conquered Gaul and Roman farmers settled there... so too the North has settled in the South. It's a Northern occupation of the South and the proof that the North truly won the Civil War!

Texas: 23rd
North Carolina: 30th
Georgia: 34th
Florida: 39th
Tennessee: 40th
Arkansas: 44th
Alabama: 45th
South Carolina: 47th
Mississippi: 50th

Gee.. VA is doing well; Louisiana and Texas are middling but EVERY OTHER Confederate state is in the back half of the rankings, with 5 states in the lowest 10!

With the exception of Virginia, which is probably only higher because of Northern Virginia which is practically the North anyway, the South is an impoverished boondocks

VA, LA, Texas, and Arkansas are the only CSA states that currently have unemployment rates lower than the national average. All other Southern states are worse off.

And don't forget that the population shift primarily has to do with inter-state migration to areas that are not the South, such as Southern California, as well as a great deal of Mexican immigration to the Southwest.

Except that rather then adopt Northern policies, the South has remained politically distinct from the North. Those policies are also why the South is actually attracting increased employment. Granted, the trend hasn't completely reversed the disparities, but it's starting to shift them.

The other part of this is the emigration from the South of significant people in the first half of the 20th century, to seek jobs up north. Not only has this stopped, but it's reversed.

Partially, yes, but that doesn't explain places like Arizona, Texas or Florida having tremendously more influence now than pre 1860, or even pre 1950. With trends as they are, TX could eventually exceed CA in population. CA's growth in the past 10 years has been very flat.
