How does the south turning a corner over a century later prove they won the war? You might as well claim Germany and Japan won WWII because they have a strong economy now. It might be the most bat**** insane line of reasoning I've ever encountered.

When both Germany and Japan in the '70s hit higher percentages of the world economy after the war than they did before the war. It's not so much said now, but back then, yes.

There have been many articles talking about how the southern states have been growing while the rust belt states in the north have been growing very slowly, or in the case of Michigan, actually losing population. What this means, is what we do see, that the Southern states have a larger proportion of the overall US population, much larger, than they did in 1860.

(Western) Germany began to recover pretty soon - late 1940ies/early 1950ies. Marshall plan aid certainly did play a major role there of course, but it didn't took decades.

That doesn't man they *won* the war militarily (who'd have thunk). But the argument is hardly meant in that sense, and one could say in the post war world they emerged as *winners* at least economically compared to say the USSR which destroyed the Wehrmacht and became a superpower but never really could challenge the West economically afterwards, which was one reason why it was gone 50 yrs. later.

Like whose brain thinks like this? Someone says what is true that the South lost the Civil War and the Ben Kenobi mind is all like, "I just need to argue against this fact of history!" and somehow thinks "Hey!
