This. And the way PCOS is usually managed is with--you guessed it--the pill.

It is her body, and her choice. If she really does have some genetic predisposition towards stroke then the usual pill probably isn't the best choice for her, but as I said, there are a number of acceptable alternatives.

Cheers again to Elok and Shelok!

        • These are all markets that are closed in some countries but opened in others to the forces of capitalism. Without goverment intervention where you have demand you shall eventually have supply.
Businesses supporting abortion are shortsighted in that they are killing their own customers. I sincerely doubt any business wants to be located next to an abortion clinic.

          • I seriously hope they aren't killing their customers. They need them to live to get more abortions.

Is that a Ph.D? I don't think BK actually understood the joke he was making, so I'd claim not...

            • And you aren't a Christian. See how easy it is to define these things.
Here's what the wiki article says

Hence, it is clear that the main tenet of socialism, community of goods, must be utterly rejected, since it only injures those whom it would seem meant to benefit, is directly contrary to the natural rights of mankind, and would introduce confusion and disorder into the commonweal. The first and most fundamental principle, therefore, if one would undertake to alleviate the condition of the masses, must be the inviolability of private property
I don't know about you but if I'm rejecting the core tenet of socialism, I'm not a socialist.

You should read your history. The mercantile class and the left wing movements made common cause against the monarchy. Afterwards the mercantile class became the power of Europe.
There were no rebellions in Russia (the most autocratic of them all). It's a facile analysis to assume that all of the Rebellions tried to throw down the monarchies of Europe. Again, the sparks were the same as they've always been. Famine + an explosion of the urban population in cities not designed for that many people in a small area.

I'm happy that you consider the father of neoconservatism to be a left winger.
Yep, neocons are just liberals, same as wilson. They only difference between them and the so-called liberals is that they believe war should be used to spread democracy, while the 'true left' believes that wars they don't like are bad.

The conflict between TRADITIONAL moral values and capitalism (capitalism has its own moral values) is an intelligent argument. Sorry that you see intelligent arguments can only come from socialists, when libertarians make the same arguments.
Why on earth are libertarians arguing that there is a conflict between capitalism and traditional values? They don't. Again, Capitalism requires certain tenets in order to operate, all of which are found in traditional morality, particularly the sanctity of the contract and keeping promises.

I'll ask for your evidence that this was the same as the men (note the plural - or were they both short and he just wanted to name one?) convicted of sodomy since I consider you to be a horrid liar on all things.
I took it from your own damn source. Google up 1780 and Edmund Burke, and you'll find it about 3-4 pages down. I love it how the man who cites a source hasn't actually read the source to confirm that it says what other people tell him how to do and has the nerve to lecture me regarding history.

This has come up a few times, including the quote I made of the Hardon collector. Chances are if it's funny, it's because I put it there.

                • Same way every other thread does. BTW it's BK vs The Rationals.
Why don't we start a new thread for this, Imran?

I hate spamming up elok's important thread.

                  • The more visibility you give your discussion, the better. You're slowly pushing away anyone who could possibly like you the more you talk.

This is nothing compared to the old Vel takes on all the commies threads. Poly can use more philosophical discussions, and I'm actually quite enjoying this one. I don't mind everyone ganging up to have a shot at me, it's good practice.

My eyes automatically slide past any discussions involving Ben.

Vel? The guy who fled to WePlayCiv because we weren't giving him enough attention?

Uhhhh.... Pope XIII wasn't a Christian socialist, so to define it by what he says.... and Rerum Novarum was simply a precusor. If you could read, you'd realize that quite clearly in the article.

Exactly, because capitalism was far less advanced in Russia than the rest of Europe and had less members of a mercantile class. Why are you making my argument for me again?

                                neocons are just liberals
So why exactly do you defend people like Bush and Cheney?

Why on earth are libertarians arguing that there is a conflict between capitalism and traditional values? They don't.
Sorry, I didn't realize the legalization of all drugs was a part of traditional values. Same with the legalization of prostitution. Which traditional values are you talking about?

Please note, fellow other readers: He provides no source.

One can note in his speeches, Burke saw that the pillory for sodomites would be, basically, a death penalty for those individuals. And he did not think it warrented such, while most of the society was perfectly willing to let sodomites be killed. For this Burke was considered to be advocating for mercy for sodomites (which he basically was, as he didn't want them killed).
