  • Exactly, because capitalism was far less advanced in Russia than the rest of Europe and had less members of a mercantile class. Why are you making my argument for me again?
Or perhaps because there was no famine there... We can go round and round.

So why exactly do you defend people like Bush and Cheney?
Because I prefer neocons to hardcore Obama socialists.

Sorry, I didn't realize the legalization of all drugs was a part of traditional values. Same with the legalization of prostitution. Which traditional values are you talking about?
I dunno, things like a contract being a contract. Libertarianism doesn't work unless you presuppose traditional values.

Please note, fellow other readers: He provides no source.
Do the google source Imran. It's right there. I found the exact same source you quoted. The fact that you don't believe me is evidence, once again, you don't know what you are talking about. If you had bothered to actually read your own source, you would know.

One can note in his speeches, Burke saw that the pillory for sodomites would be, basically, a death penalty for those individuals. And he did not think it warrented such, while most of the society was perfectly willing to let sodomites be killed. For this Burke was considered to be advocating for mercy for sodomites (which he basically was, as he didn't want them killed).
Again, his actual diaries say no such thing. He argues that the pillory must be watched to ensure that the mob doesn't take advantage of the pillory to execute people. He notes that the pillory was used for a wide variety of offenses, and was not intended to be a death penalty. He argued that the pillory should be abolished not just in this one case, but in all cases.

Of course, but I'm right and you are a moron.

Yeah, you because you never cheerleaded for the prior administration, just grinned and beared it....

I dunno, things like a contract being a contract. Libertarianism doesn't work unless you presuppose traditional values.
Contract being a contract seems to work in Europe as well, where you feel they've moved away from traditional values. Furthermore, capitalism has allowed for the fact that it may be economically desirable to break your contract (that's why it is allowable).

So his speeches don't matter... only his diaries. And the reaction of the rest of Parliament was that in the case of sodomy, the pillory being used as a death penalty was just because the community was showing its moral outrage. Burke was considered to be soft on sodomy for his stance and not for no reason.

You missed the threads where I thought afghanistan and Iraq were a bad idea? I am impressed with how Obama has brought hope and change in that area. Why did you hate Bush so much if the war is just plain good?

It is allowable to break your contract, but you pay penalties for doing so. As for Europe, they are also much more socialist. Look at where they were wasting milk in Brussells in an effort to decrease the milk supply. Europe would be far better off to embrace capitalism and become competitive with the rest of the world.

Burke's response, again in parliament is that the intent of the pillory has never been for execution. I'm glad to see you took the time to look up your source. He was extremely specific in his papers, as I showed that the men in the pillory were hung because they were short and aphyxiated in the pillory which was not designed for their height. Burke also took the time to say that there were many offenses for which the pillory was used, and that the problems in this instance applied to all of them, not just the one.

Are you denying your praise for most of the Bush Administration's domestic programs.

What does that Europe stuff have to do with a contract being a contract is the same in Europe as well?

And yes, you pay penalties, but it is allowable and the penalties have to actually be reasonable (ie, if you break your lease and they find someone to take your apartment, they can't charge you for when that other person is living there - even if that is stated in the contract).

Sorry, I know my source. Only ONE man who was convicted for sodomy was short and therefore couldn't reach. The other was perfectly fine standing there.... if it wasn't for the crowd. Reading is fundamental.. I suggest your try it.

And there is a reason why Burke was disclaimed as being soft on sodomy. They were put in the pillory for community justice. The execution of those in pillory for heinous has always been something that has been considered.

Uh, I liked the unborn victims of violence act, and I liked his tax cuts. I don't believe I've spoken in praise of most of the rest.

They had plenty of ways to execute people, why assign them to the pillory? I'm not buying your argument here.

            • The pillory was a device made of a wooden or metal framework erected on a post, with holes for securing the head and hands, formerly used for punishment by public humiliation and often further physical abuse, sometimes lethal.

And I never buy your arguments.

                • Maybe you want to community to hand out the punishment they think is best, whether it be killing or just maiming or slightly beating up. I mean if you put somewhat who is convicted of (what was considered) a heinous crime, like a child molester, in the pillory, what exactly do you think would happen?

Unlike you, they could actually think through things.

                  • Why pillory someone when you can behead them or burn them or draw and quarter them or break them on the wheel or crucify them or drown them or boil them? Good God Imran why don't you think these things through before you post???

                      • Capitalism is manifestly opposed to abortion, because you cannot sell anything unless there is someone to sell it to. Killing the unborn is like killing a customer, you might make money off the initial transaction, but it's bad business.

Right, because business never commits to short-term profit over long-term goals. Why, I just now had to make up this very word combination as it's never been used before!

Capitalism is opposed to prostitution, as it does greater harms to business than it promotes. Sure the prostitute might be better off, but the other businesses are negatively impacted by prostitution.

?? The other businesses can get more customers by having more people in the vicinity, and the prostitute is almost always worse off.

It doesn't care about morals. It cares about the bottom line.

The truth is that morality benefits business. If your code says that promises ought to be kept and contracts ought to be honoured, then businesses can trust one another. The same is true for the rest of 'traditional' morality.

The 1st being true, but the 2nd doesn't follow from that. Morality being subjective and the reality is that it can be both a moral and an immoral force.

And then they fail and go out of business. Thanks for making my point for me.

Seriously, you think a business would do better having a hooker outside asking the patrons if they want to take her home?

If morality were subjective try not paying your bills and see how far that gets you with the companies.

If they always failed you'd think they wouldn't do these things. I guess all business people are stupid... therefore capitalism is a failure b/c it's only run by stupid people and should immediately be replaced with a utopian communist society!

See, I can draw my own conclusions with anecdotal evidence too.

                            Depends on the business.

1st of all, try sticking to the argument instead of making **** up. 2nd, "it" in my quote= "business" and business can be moral or immoral. To think otherwise is beyond stupid.
