The Hawaii officials went on record saying that they had a copy of his long form birth certificate, which includes such details such as the hospital, the attending doctor, etc.

All birth certificates are now electronic. His birth certificate now looks exactly the same as every other person born in Hawai'i since 1900. The (Republican) Governor of Hawai'i has stated, again and again and again, that his birth certificate is legit.

But he has not permitted the release of the certificate.

You nutty canuck. They went digital back in the 90's and discarded all the paper copies. Every birth certificate from 1904 until today is completely digital now though the state of Hawaii has certified Obama's birth certificate as official and correct. Plus he has shown the original his mother got back in the 1960's complete with raised seal and everything. Snopes checked it out and declared it correct, genuine, and in order.
