b) No, I don't use the IE 'shortcut' code in my actual work. That would be stupid because FireFox (and I think Opera) would have a hissy fit over it. It doesn't bother me because I use CSS and other methods, but during meetings, IE is more helpful. If you don't get it, join my meetings and see for yourself, otherwise, **** off.

edit: I suddenly felt I should edit this, now that I know you are "developers" and not "designers" hence, you need more information to understand something.

Long ago, in a land far away, there were these doctors, some doctors were gynae's, others were otologists, others were anaesthesiologists, and so on, they may each have their own profession, but there is one thing in common, they're all whiny, must be my way or no one will like it, rich bastards.

Then, one day, a doctor calls this amazing guy with skills that require both sides of the brain! The Doctor asked this amazing person, can you build me a website that looks amazing and is really good for handling all my useless content so that I can see who are all the members of the society are and how much they have paid and blah blah blah.

The amazing man puts his hands on his hips and says "No Problem Doctor, I will have a sample done this week". Later that week, the amazing man calls the Doctor and arranges a meeting; during the meeting, the doctor asks many questions that to him are very important, but to the amazing man, are quite silly and stupid. The Doctor asks "What about putting a grey line here". The amazing man sighs inside knowing this is bad, but does it anyway, he doesn't want to waste the Doctors time, so he just puts in some quick line of code to show the dumbass how it looks.

I think FrostyBoy is a godsend to web designers everywhere.

"Best work" is not really doable, especially considering I dislike most of my work after about 2 months.

But I am quite excited about my new project, entirely designed graphically and functionally by The Amazing Man.

This product is called E-Mice (MICE is an acronym for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions). This application will help organisers and travel companies to manage hotel bookings and registrations of delegates, exhibitioners, speakers, etc. There is a lot of work in the backroom, but I don't want to show that for obvious reasons. But I can show you a sample of a work in progress front-end hotel booking form. What I like most about this form is that everything is provided on one page. I hate websites that have all the information, but they are scattered on OTHER pages. Big no no for me.

I can't show you the top, because that would give too much info away, so I cut it off.




Room Availabilty is a collapsible window, you click on it, and you can see what is available on what day. This is all application driven.




Clicking on a hotel name (row) will open information on that hotel (see what I mean about info being on the same page, very handy).




Summary. Colour usage is very important to me. If Accommodation is green, then accommodation must be green everywhere, etc. These are simple design rules that are often forgotten.

I'm pretty happy with how this application is turning out, I have only seen one other similar application (the one in Chicago), but it is no where as nice or as useful as this one.

Everything on one page -> I can't bookmark anything specific. Especially annoying for a travel site.

The idea is, you decide on the spot, not later.

If you want to see information on a hotel, there is a menu (that I cut out from the 1st image) that has all the same information on the hotel, same for tours and maps.

It looks like a generic form-driven website from the dot-com explosion. You've tried a bit too hard to make it look almost-web-2.0 with the graphics look. But there's a bit too much bland solid colors.

The grid for "room availability" is terrible for usability. WTF do the colours mean? There's no legend. There's no obvious visual pairing between the name of the hotel and the row of availability.

The page is considered "heavy" because it's all on one page. It's a bit overwhelming to users.

It's an average effort. If you'd taken a course in usability design you'd come up with a different overall design. But what would I know, I'm developer.

*cracks knuckles* I'm going to enjoy tearing your post apart. But if I have to keep doing it, it's going to piss me off.

Glad you like the beach colour, actually, that colour is one of the easiest colours on the eye and great for many colours for text.

Writing on the left side is a verticle DESIGN, its not important to the visitor. It's simply design. Surely you did realise that? Anyway, these sorts of things are opinion based, some people will drool over the design and copy me, others will puke on their screen, what to do? Say it with me "**** it".

"Too much bland solid colours", as opposed to too little vibrant patterned colours? No Asher, no. Soft colours are easy on the eye, it has to be, so that you can focus on the text (the important part), the soft colours "coding" help to keep you focused on what is what.

Room availability grid is still under construction, reason why the hotel names are above the row, is because sometimes you get 10 days, and hotel names with 50 characters, see the problem?
Legend is still under consideration, we're not sure if we want to show the number and or their meaning just yet. Big boss is still deciding on this.

Actually, the page is very easy to flow through, it's only heavy if you open all the hidden windows, hence why they are closed on opening, and you open them only when you need them. It's really a basic page.

As for courses, yeah, I did that already, in my last one I left half way because my teacher said "This course can do nothing for you, I have found a job for you instead, they are interested in taking you". I left and joined a company called Caxton Press, that was back in NZ.

Here in Singapore, I have given a number of lectures on design to students. So you, a developer, teaching me lessons about design, well... I think you know what i'm going to say.

Is this the end of the story yet?
