I think the game I most regretted buying was Triple Play Baseball. It was the last in that series before EA changed the name (to MVP or something), and was truly awful. I put up with a lot in sports games - and generally buy Madden every year for some reason - but this was truly terrible and unplayable.

And I was also raving about the upcoming title Civ3, saying how it was simply guaranteed to be awesome, because SMAC was such a great game, so how could CIV3 not be awesome...

I like that story for some reason. Is that the reason you applied for a job there? To try and stop them from making another bad game?

I usually wait for reviews before buying. I never bought Civ 3 or MoO 3.

Some friends & I tried Tribes (IIRC). Too buggy, unplayable at the time, so it got returned.

I'm fairly certain Blake is not employed by Firaxis per se, and certainly was not prior to BtS/Warlords Patches in any capacity... his AI was entirely a fan mod until that point.

                Another Moo3 here.

Although I bought East Front 2 in a cheap bin and only played it for about an hour and couldn't get into it so that was probably worse from a waste of money POV.

But Moo3 was so bad because I had such hopes.

Why Master Of Orion 3 is so bad?

I remember having played the MOO & MOO2 a lot and actually I liked it.

Is it because it's just plain bad or the game was very buggy?

rings of power for the ZX spectrum was brilliant except it always crashed when you got to the Dungeon bit which was really annoying.

                      MOO3.

It was buggy as all heck and it was just plain bad design to begin with. MOO2 was a far, far superior game in all aspects.

I understand that it had the clunkiest, most unwieldy interface ever made. Also it departed from the fun space empire theme of its predecessors and had you running an interstellar bureaucracy. So I hear, at least. I never played it.

CivIII had faults, but it fell victim to expectations more than anything else.
I'm old fashioned. I loved what Civ2 did, but what killed civ3 is the fact that I fell asleep trying to play it.

It just took forever to play a game! I can play a full civ game from start at 4000 bc in about 2 hours. With Civ 3, it was just sooo slow.

It's a long way from bad. How anyone could go back to playing CivII is beyond me. I loved CivII, but it had a number of features that were totally broken, and the AI... For its time, it was very good. For its time, CivIII was mediocre.
MGE was a huge improvement, and there are plenty of scenarios that take away from the 'brokeness' of howitzer hordes.
