The OFFICIAL United States Presidential Election Thread! III
Well as the old saying goes, if its worth doing, its worth doing right.
Good to see the youth vote being important btw.

And which way do you predict it to go? A shift to the left or back to the right? Personally, I think if the dems are smart they'll forget about Hilary in 08 and look for a centrist who will have a chance to take a few southern states. It'll be too soon for Obama, otherwise I'd say he's a shoe-in for the nomination.
If the Republicans are smart in 2008 they'll get a black, hispanic, or a woman to run in the VP spot. That would make serious in roads into a few of the major bases of democratic voters. Democrates need to get a centrist southerner hopefully with a running mate from the southern midwest or Florida.
Also the Dems need to avoid hot button issues like gay marriage which turn off the poor white trash & hispanic voters and instead concentrate on going after the Republican base of business owners, investors, religious people, and the like.
I'll remind you what I actually said first. I said: I'm not a liberal, and I didn't vote for Bush because he's stupid. The whole northeast sort of felt the same way.
Oh yea, the NE is the whole country, I forgot, the rest of us is just fly over country.
Lets always remember the passangers on United Flight 93, true heroes in every sense of the word!

So Kerry concedes... does that mean that Bush has officially won?
No, nothing does that until the electorial colledge meets.

First, the draft was a democratic issue, when it was the democrats pushing for war (Vietnam). Right now, Bush is way more likely to invade other countries than a democratic administration, and given that right now, our military is starting to be stretched thin, the only way to ensure that we actually win those conflicts is to impose a draft. Given a choice between losing a war, and imposing a draft, I must hope for the draft, as the lesser of evils, but the point is that the draft must become a republican position.
Second, the republicans won by seizing control of the moral tenor of the country. If they get all ML-y, and gloat for the next month, people may rethink. Then again, maybe I'm being optimistic. God knows I want to be.
Finally, you now control the presidency, have a nice majority in both the house and the senate, and control the majority of governorships. If you do not make the country better, you have only yourself to blame. Proof yourself, and if it works, if real blows are struct against terrorism and it becomes a less effective tool, if the dreaded assault on civil liberties does not come, and if the new tax plan lessens the plights of poverty, than I will become converted, and join the Republican party.
Good luck

Hillary may be more centrist issue by issue than Obama (im not sure really)
It might depend on what you consider centrism, but I'd say that Obama's the heir to Wellstone.
but I fear a whole range of past associations make it hard for her to appeal to cultural conservatives in the red states. I think Obama may have more potential.
I absolutely agree, lotm. Obama's real gift is the ability to articulate left-wing values honestly and elegantly, and most importnatly without sounding like a total douchebag, in contrast to John "everything is God's gift" Kerry, and in this way reframe the political debate. He's really comparable to Reagan in that way.
Hillary also has a lot of baggage among the left for her hawkishness. And the left will not sell out for supposed "electability" this time (not that she's electable). She'd be defeated in the primaries, and she'd lose in the general if she made it out.
Personally I like Ed Rendell (who has the advantage of being a governor, not a Senator), but I think no Jew (other than maybe a left wing one) is viable while the WOT is underway, which it may well be in 2008.
Why do you say that?
I take it Rendell is fairly centrist, though?
IF the WOT is still a big factor in 2008, Bob Graham may be the best shot - has been a governor, from Florida, and matches the "dem must be a southerner" criteria, even if little appeal in most southern states.
That would be interesting, but Graham isn't the most charismatic guy around... And he did pretty anemically in the primaries.

I voted for him and all but I don't think he's any Einstein.
How..how does that work???
"I think his a moron"
"Yeah!!! that's the man that deserves my vote!!"
If I were to be in such a position I wouldn't vote at all..

Well that's what everyone was saying during the coverage today. I've yet to see the final figures though, but hopefully youth turned out in large numbers.
However if they didn't, then it would be even better for me, because I could use that as a hook to get funding for my group and propose lowering the voting age as the solution to get out the vote oriented foundations. That'd actually be much better.

HAVE A DAY.
<--- Quote by Former U.S. President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt
"And there will be strange events in the skies--signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And down here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. The courage of many people will falter because of the fearful fate they see coming upon the earth, because the stability of the very heavens will be broken up. Then everyone will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds with power and great glory. So when all these things begin to happen, stand straight and look up, for your salvation is near!" --Luke 21:25-28
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the call of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, all the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever. --1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
It still doesn't make any sense. If you check out Ohio's voting stats, Bush was only ahead by 115k votes. Kerry had a slim chance but a chance nonetheless, why did he give up?
Maybe it actually isn't over, and Kerry's concession is just until further results are dug up???
