I don't see how the Democrats are going to get their Draft proposal through with the Republicans controlling the Presidency and gaining more votes in the House and Senate.

The Democratic attempt to reinstitute the Draft is dead as a doornail now.

    • The time is drawing near for us all to try and reach some reconciliation on the issues. Let's look for common ground. There are things that I don't support Bush on and I am sure if the 'Poly Libs look hard enough they can find something to support him on.

Also, NEVER be embarrased to be an American. Take heart that the issues were openly discussed and that over 107 million people participated in the process.

Reasonable people have reasonable grievances with any government and they should be voiced...but voiced reasonably

Says more about the US than about Kerry IMO.
In just ANY other country in the world he would would have won.
Actually, I think it says far more about Kerry and the Democrats in general. It's not like there was any mystery what Bush was about and how his campaign was going to be run. There were no surprises - the Democrats should have seen everything from a mile away and made appropriate plans in advance (including, IMO, picking a different candidate).

          • Reconcilliation? I don't think so. At least not for a week or so while I gloat continuously. The largest coalition of liberal forces set out to undermine the election and destroy our president and they not only lost, they got trounced. We gained seats in the senate and the house and won the presidency by the largest vote ever. We rule.

Well if he goes through with reforming social security and reforming the tax code, then those will definitely be good things. Since he won't be going for reelection, and Cheney probably won't be running in '08 I expect Bush to be even more cavalier about public opinion, which might actually be a good thing.

However, he will most likely screw it all up like all his domestic efforts over the last 4 years and we'll just end up with a more bloated government and a bigger deficit.

                  Kerry concedes the election.

                  Congratulations America!

We could ping-pong this one all night without really getting anywhere, so I'm not gonna.

Your point... your leaders probably couldn't win either if another countries voters made the choice for you [/QUOTE]

                    Well, actually, they probably would.
Anyway, you can't argue the fact that in the US case there is a huge difference between the US and the rest of the world.

I wonder if we will drift even further apart now and what will happen when China and India become real players.

Yep you proved me wrong with that one. Wait a minute here, you're calling Bush a moron and saying you have more intelligence in the same breath? Remind me again why I thought you were a liberal?

Specifically, dealing with Rehnquist who ever replaces him will likely be on the bench for 25-50 years so it is a major blow. I believe four more justices are in their 80's and a likely to retire so this could be the end of America as a pro-choice country.
Partisan? Such as who? Having watched a number of the judiciary committee hearings on the federal appointments, it became clear that what the dems meant by 'partisan' was conservative. Every judge is gonna have opinions. The comments by Leahy and Kennedy showed that there was no way that any judge that didnt completely agree with their views was gonna pass muster and they blocked their appointments without alllowing it to go to a vote on the floor.

Hey, I kinda think Bush is a moron too.

I voted for him and all but I don't think he's any Einstein.

I'll remind you what I actually said first. I said: I'm not a liberal, and I didn't vote for Bush because he's stupid. The whole northeast sort of felt the same way.
