    Swiss,

You are going to have a hard time convincing PAL that there is an impending attack from Imperio when you guys have open borders and are trading techs with them.
    -cres

The question is how much info on Imperio's bad craziness do we want to tell PAL. I'd say we stick to: 'they show now interest in renewing the NAP that expires in a few turns, they embargo Maths & Monarchy, they sabotage our copper, and now they trade us Currency. They're weird alright!'

    • - They have roaded border tiles towards us for no other reason than to quickly deploy forces towards our key resources.
      - They have refused any meaningful diplomatic exchange for the last 16 turns (except the odd "message received") despite our continuous attempts.
      - They have shown no interest in re-negotiating the current NAP we have.
      - They have embargoed us on Monarchy and Mathematics.
      - They have forced their tech trading partners to withhold MC from us, although we are offering very juicy deals.
      - They are running their espionage slider against us for lots of turns to accumulate epts quickly.
      - They have used their spy to sabotage our sole source of metal.
      - They are producing War Elephants (in fact have completed the first units already.) although we have no knowledge of HBR, so cannot field HAs.

Now some of these things could be seen to be purely defensive, but the sum of it paints a clear picture.

      - Why Imperio is allowing open borders is puzzling to our defense council.
      - Trading techs is easy to explain. If they are confident to take us out in the short term it is in their interest to get as much of our techs as possible before hand and trade us non-military tech back.

How much do we want to tell PAL?
Are we still asking them for their metal? Or are we waiting for our horses to go before calling in our favor?

      • I would tack something on the end of mh's comments ... "How about a 100gp bet that Imp attack us withing 10 turns?" We'll even offer odds if they are interested.

        • Here's a candidate email. I opted to keep it simple:

          Cres:

Indeed, we are similarly confused. We are honestly not trying to pull a fast one here: Imperio have made more than a handful of aggressive moves to us. Trading for currency, however, was an offer we could not refuse.

We will try to keep you updated,

          Swiss Pauli

            • Nothing really, it just sounds helpful.

              • I would just send Mh's whole post as an email to PAL. There are times when full disclosure can only help us, and this is one such time.

They tend to interpret things quite literally, this PAL bunch, and empty phrases will only confuse them. Your PAL-think could do with a brush-up, methinks

Unless we feel like it's giving too much away, I'd also just send this off to PAL. (Great summary!) Don't send anything until we have consensus though; we don't want to give away info recklessly.

Looks like 2.1 approaches to me: Mh, Sulla and I suggest the same thing; Ruff suggests adding a bet to Mh's post (I like humor, so I wouldn't mind adding Ruff's suggestion either); and Sooooo suggests a completely different message.

                            • No bets please, our whole strategy for the next 6-10 turns is to scare Imperio off.
