    • Heh, goes to show what effect not talking to anyone will have. I think that this will be Imperio's undoing long-term. Yes, they don't speak English as a first language, but they're not even trying to talk to anyone.

Do we want to tell PAL that we'd assist them in a war against Imperio, if the occasion would arise? Now, I for one do not think that Imperio is going to attack PAL for an instant, but if they would be so silly as to transport their army overseas, wouldn't we benefit enormously by attacking them? It's kind of a moot point, since Imperio has no naval units whatsoever at present. I'm more thinking that we could score diplo points with PAL by pledging to aid them in a war that assuredly is not going to happen - and maybe get them to help us in return.

      • I think that is a good idea Sullla. We could offer an agreement that if one of our civs gets attacked by Imperio then the other would assist by attacking the other flank of their civ.

        • Definitely pledge aid. Once the expansion phase is over (if there is a lull before Astronomy) and teams have standing offensive armies we should move in without hesitation if Templars or Imperio were foolish enough to sail to PAL's continent with their own army.

MP thought - PAL may be much more frightened of a Imperio attack because on the MP settings with Galley-accessible neighboring lands (normally wheel maps with cylindrical wrap) it's a very common strategy to boat lightly-defended back cities with 2-move units. The difference here is that without two city-elimination on the threat of 2-6 units via boat is greatly lessened, but PAL may not appreciate that.

          • Ha! The 'bad craziness thread' was meant to be a bit of fun with them, but I'm glad it's giving PAL The Fear

            • Agreed that we should pledge aid and maybe even float the idea of some sort of Imperio-based MPP

              • I think we'd be best off proposing a general, mutual support pact in case of an Imperio DoW. We could include things like shipping techs on agreed deals up front, resource supply, short term loans from the team at peace to the team at war, etc.

What we don't want is for PAL to ponder this too deeply, and realise their fears are absurd, so let's not ask for military intervention in case of DoW.

                • We should probably tell them that we don't need copper anymore so they needn't discuss it.

I see Swiss' point, but I think we do want military assistance. We not say it as a "pact" as such, but something like "We will help you out militarily if declared on and would like the same in return if we are declared on. It would be difficult for Imperio to defend two fronts."

We could also suggest that they cancel Imperio's ivory supply.

                  • Having slept on it, maybe we could get PAL to agree to a limited military pact: 'If one party is DoWd by Imperio the other shall immediately declare war on Imperio and make best efforts to capture/raze at least one Imperio city within 10 turns'.

We'd go for the Chicken, and PAL for Calakmul (1 LB). Having logged in, I can see why PAL has The Fear: they've gone naked in their core! Coastal Alexandria has 4 pop and no MP

                    • I don't think we need to be that specific - a sneak attack on Imperio's unguarded flank would probably not involve declaring war immediately (need time to move troops to border ). I'm fine with just saying "military assistance involving attacking the opposite flank of the Mayan empire".

                      • True enough, but a sneak attack that never comes ("we're still busy with Rabbits/got no healthy units in the area") is no good either, so how about: "military assistance involving attacking the opposite flank of the Mayan empire within 5 turns of Imperio's DoW on the other party."

We can let them stretch that to 10 turns, if they so desire.

                        • I don't think such specifics are a good idea. Sure, they work well if Imperio DOW's RB., but down the road if Imperio does DOW PAL (in dozens of turns of course) the agreement could require us to sacrifice far too many units to take a city.

                          • Yes, I would keep it more general as well. Specifics can be discussed if a DoW actually happens. PAL's and our situation could be very different from now in 30 turns.

Then we should limit the whole thing to the next 20 turns. PAL's current nudity is the cause of The Fear, so I'm sure they'd be happy to limit the deal.

And you really think Imperio are feinting at us to go after PAL?
