We should send a quick email to PAL asking them to confirm that they'll be sending us ivory next turn (T110). We're going to need that ivory for happiness at the capital!
We can also tell them:
- Math ETA is looking like 3 more turns, so due to finish on T112. Then we'll take Civil Service, spend one turn in Anarchy, and do our best to knock out Horseback Riding in 4-5 turns after that.
- We are in the process of hooking up wines, and will trade one to them in roughly 5 turns. (It would be faster, but the second one requires chopping a forest and building some roads. Three workers are on it.)

I'll drop them a short note about the wines, but seeing as our tech schedule is unchanged I won't mention that now (we should remind them about CS the turn before we complete Maths).

What are the options on just sending the scout through PAL lands anyway, just after them giving us ivory. If questioned we could just claim some sort of communications mix-up like when they traded for monarchy. We could even double move the scout since there are no rules for scouts at peacetime.

A question regarding pillaging; how does the game determin what order to cancel trade in the event of pillaging. e.g. if Pal has 4 Ivory traded out to different teams and one is pillaged, which team's trade is automatically canceled?
Could we trade our first Wine to Pal for Ivory? It's a net equal now, but if we were relying on a second happiness next turn it may not help us. When is the second Wine due to be connected.

Sullla is planning to connect the wine for Green Acres next, which needs a forest chop and a road first. It will delay the availability of the 2nd wine (as compared to the roaded wine on a plains we also have available) but I think it is the right move, as it benefits Green Acres directly.
As for the Ivory gift, I suspect PAL is evening out our Horses deal, even if they don't state it that obvious. We might find a clsed door if we are to call in that favor later. Just a feeling. At least they should demand something like Marble (Heroic Epic) in return.

In that case, we shouldn't accept Ivory as a gift. Unless we actually need second happiness right now, we should wait until our wine is connected and do a proper trade.Originally posted by mostly-harmless View Post...

Umm, yeah, it sounds good - except that you're all overlooking the fact that we need wines AND ivory to keep our cities happy and growing!
(Airstrip One is size 6 currently, and hits size 7 next turn. Not to mention, Pink is size 5 pushing 6, and Something Fishy is size 4 with whip anger, growing rapidly to 5.)
I would actually recommend that we accept PAL's ivory immediately, then gift them wines ("for free") once we get a second source hooked up. This effectively works as an equal resource trade, but we avoid a happiness crunch for the next couple of turns, which would otherwise cause problems. Kapiche?
