more emails from PAL ...
Originally posted by PAL @ Tue, Feb 10, 2009 at 9:00 AMSP,
Bananas teched Machinery with the Great Engineer from the Pyramids and they are supplying it to other teams just like we are supplying Civil Service. I'd like to see banana and
Realms trade.
I will propose to the PAL team that we tell you guys where to put your warrior to meet the banana galley when it gets close to our northern border. If you have right of passage to go around the southern coast of your continent with a boat you can meet banana that way too. Templars met banana that way.

The sticking point for us is having another team's unit come through our lands while we are at war. We aren't actually in need of marble or wines at this point, and ivory is not useful for you until you have HBR, I guess. How much of a map of rabbit's lands does your team have? For example, does your map include their capital city, their sources of metal? The PAL military command have suggested a map of rabbits land could make this Right of Passage deal happen.

woo hoo! My wife publishes her first book. Buy it now in paperback format at lulu and help me retire so I can write more BUG mod code.

I guess they have a point here - I wouldn't trust ourselves not to sell infomation to the rabbits
.
I don't think we should sell rabbit's lands because that simply states that we are willing to sell military secrets - precisely the opposite of the impression we are trying to make with PAL.
Can we send a quick email to PAL asking for an estimate of the number of turns it will take a banana galley to contact us via the east coast.

Proposed email:Note I didn't mention the Rabbit map for Right of Passage offer, since if that's clearly on the table PAL should just refuse to make any other arrangements. I figure we can return to that if they won't let our galley sail and if Banana's galley is many turns away.Hi PAL,
We appreciate you attempts to facilitate a meeting between RB and Banana. Our only concern at this point is that Banana's path along your East Coast may take many turns. Do you have an estimate on how long before we would be in contact range. Another option would be to permit our galley to sail down your west coast, which wouldn't provide us any information about your interior.
As for resources, you're right - for us Ivory is just a happy resources until we discover HBR and Construction. We are interested in trading resources for mutual long-term gain however. One option would be for RB to trade you Marble now in exchange for Ivory and your extra Gems (so a strategic resources for two happiness resources), and then give you Wine as soon as we have it hooked up (in just a few turns). Alternately we're still able to just trade Wine for Ivory.
Cheers,
RB

email sent. I edited the west coast part:
Hi PAL,
We appreciate your attempts to facilitate a meeting between RB and Banana. Our main concern at this point is that Banana's path along your East Coast may take many turns. Do you have an estimate on how long before we would be in contact range? Would we be able to jump from our continent to yours via our continents southeastern tip? You say this is how Templars did, so we guess it's OK, but we'd like to be sure!

I'd like to send PAL the following about Templars:
Hi PAL,
As we've mentioned to you previously, we're getting the silent treatment from Imperio, but now we're getting the same thing from Templars. We're prepared to cut Imperio some slack because of the language problems, but Templars are just being rude. How are they acting towards you? And, seeing as you've played DGs before, is this sort of thing normal?
Looking forward to any words of wisdom you might have!
Cheers,
Swiss Pauli

Regarding the message sent to PAL:
Why did you change the paragraph with the galley traveling through the channel? The paragraph that was sent does not make sense to me.
Especially as you mentioned in the next message that we get the cold shoulder from Templars as well.
And I don't think the second message is necessary. What is the purpose of it.

I changed the first paragraph to avoid us sailing right by some of PAL's cities (as we have to stick to the coast). If they tell us we can't cross, then we can reasonably propose to go through their coastal waters.Originally posted by mostly-harmless View PostRegarding the message sent to PAL:

The second message is fishing to get info from PAL. When I emailed today about the trade, cres emailed straight back without consulting with his team, and I was hoping he might give us an interesting tidbit about Templars. Seeing as Aidun had the good grace to reply to PM, we can leave this message.

Hey, this is great news! We should be kicking back and celebrating the fact that PAL is willing to help us get in contact with Banana.
One way or another, we should be meeting them soon. Any suggestions on how to move our eastern continent units to facilitate getting in touch with them?
On another note, if we can actually get Metal Casting from Templars, we should be able to get Machinery from Banana, which would solve most of our defense issues. Also, if Templars continue to act intransigent, we could try forming a PAL/Banana/RB triple alliance. PAL seems to be hinting at something along those lines, actually. I don't know why PAL would want that, but if they do, we'd be more than happy to take it! Our three teams could easily out-tech a poorly-communicating Imperio/Templars alliance, should it come to that.
I'm feeling a lot better about our prospects now than I was just 24 hours ago.
