  • Yeah I assumed that they meant the Taj

    • Perhaps we should reply that as skilled Civ players we can adjust the beaker values to reflect wonder reservations. The great thing about No Tech Brokering is that so long as PAL makes us agree to not build X wonder there is no chance someone else can build it because of our actions.

The counter-argument would be that this tips PAL's hand, but it's pretty much tipped when they refuse to sell Y tech in order to reserve a wonder.

We could always be forthright and tell them they have zero change to get liberalism and the Taj

      • That sounds good in theory, but I doubt they'd agree. If PAL made this suggestion to us, would we tell them what our plans are?

        • I would send them a polite response thanking them for the message, and leave it at that. PAL has basically admitted that they're going for Nationalism via Liberalism. Why should we tell them that we're going to get there first, and take Taj to boot? Might as well let them make a huge beaker investment in Education and Liberalism that goes to waste, right?

I mean, we did offer to work together and share rewards. Not our fault if they said no and get burned by it.

While Sullla's ideal (above) is fine, what Zevis suggests here is pretty much what we did with Banana, right?

            • No it's very different. Banana don't have a chance of getting the Taj before we do if we don't trade, so it's OK to tell them our plans and make a deal to give them the tech. But PAL do have the opportunity, so we keep schtum.

              • And PAL and us both know that we are each other's main (only?) competition for this game. Whereas Banana are more of our friends since we know they are unlikely to be any competition for us

                • Ohhhhh, maybe they are going for Angkor Wat because they have been building obelisks recently, which IIRC allow 2 priest specialists. There is no other reason to build obelisks for culture instead of missionaries. And they've just gone to pacifism. Interesting strategy!

                  • Are priests even any good? I never use them in my games. Great prophets are pretty gross

                    • If we think PAL is going for AW then how about asking Banana (as PAL would surely have not traded them Philo without a 'no-build' clause).

And/or we could ask PAL if they're building AW, and trade them our Stone for 'a resource' for 10 turns, so that they have no fear we'll beat them to the wonder.

@sunrise - PAL has two founded two religions and they're going to have a lot of cities, so a couple of shrines would be handy, and AW-Priests are pretty powerful.

                      • Trading PAL stone as a sign of good faith sounds good. Another idea is a trade war: we could tell PAL we will offer the other teams Philo for a steep discount to keep PAL from getting any trade value out of the tech.

                        • I doubt that'll swing it. If they don't need engineering then they won't give us philo for anything. We obviously want it quite badly so it's in their interest not to give it away.

                          • If we can get Philo ourselves in short time then we should do it. I am not a fan to trade PAL resources to get wonders even quicker. (Don't they have stone already?)

It's a long shot, but it's surely better to try and to fail than not to try at all.

                              • Considering that they directly refused several times, it would be better to stop pressing on this issue. With passive teams like Templars and Imperio it helps to keep pushing until they move, but PAL has a good idea what they are doing and after they said "no, never, not under any circumstances", continuing negotiations would just annoy them.
