  • I don't think either offense is going to do much against either defense but the Ravens are loaded with more talent than the Falcons so the Ravens can do much more. And Revis is, ultimately, one man, so he can't cover Boldin, Mason, Housh, AND Stallworth. Also, the Falcons are overly reliant on their running game and Matt Ryan isn't exactly going to be lighting it up even against an overrated Pittsburgh secondary. The Falcons are a more smash-mouth grind out the yardage sort of team, something which the Steelers should be able to stop.

The weakness of the Steelers D is actually going to be their offense. Dennis Dixon needs to be able to sustain drives and keep the D rested. As long as he can do that, the D should be able to do the rest. I think this game is going to get ugly which means big fantasy value for the D's.

I have a fantasty question as well... I know the obvious thing would be to start Marshall and Crabtree but something tells me to go cutesy and leave those studs on the bench and start Gaffney and Santana Moss. Buffalo's secondary is much better than people think (they were #2 against the pass last year but gave up on the run so the Dolphins will likely run all game) which negates Marshall's value and I definitely see Gaffney or Santana outperforming Crabtree even against Seattle. The Jaguars defense, particularly their secondary, is suspect and Gaffney is the #1 receiver on a pass-first Broncos and Santana Moss, if he's going to show flashes of Desean Jackson with McNabb at the helm, is going to do it now while McNabb is healthy and against the rival Cowboys.

Am I crazy or does it make sense to sit Marshall and Crabtree and let Gaffney and Moss start?

(Also the guy I play against has McNabb as his QB so I can mitigate his points with Moss who is likely to be McNabb's only real target)

    • I'd start NYJ - BAL just isn't as yardy as ATL, DEF aside, and NYJ > PIT right now. BAL could do a lot against them (and I very much hope they do), but ATL could easily maul PIT.

Umm, I'd start your real starters. Marshall will be catching passes against the small children of BUF - his only concern is that MIA builds a thirty point lead by halftime and shuts down the passing game. Crabtree I don't know about, he could be either good or mediocre - but probably more stable than gaffney/moss.

        • How is ATL more 'yardy' than Baltimore? Last year, the Ravens were #13 in yards per game and the Falcons were #16 but the Ravens have improved immensely and the Falcons are the same exact team they were last year but one year older.

Baltimore can do a lot more offensively than ATL can. Go Steelers D.

          • I think it has a lot more to do with Flutie's height than his faith. The whole "little engine who could" thing. My guess is, Ben's about the same height.

You have grossly exaggerated ideas about a guy because how long tall he is? Nothing about what happened on the field but about him being a midget like you?

                • snoopy, I just checked out Matthew Berry's Love/Hate column for this week on ESPN. He's loving both Gaffney and Moss and hating Marshall. Of course, he's still ranking Marshall higher than either of those two but it's closer than you would think.

He's also hating Matt Ryan and Michael Turner Start the Steelers D, Donegeal

Stand in? I think Ben is in the closet! Come on, Imran... I even referenced Flutie's length... get it? I'm saying Ben is gay and in the closet And he wants to have a 3-some with LT and Flutie.

I'm sorry but it's gotten to the point where I can't take him seriously after the Flutie is Manning with Cunningham speed comment... all I can do it dismiss him with insults

Out of all those receivers, the only one I like is Crabtree. I think he is going to blossom into a top 10 or top 5 WR this year. Start him. Marshall now plays in a running offense but I think he has more upside than Moss or Gaffney. That is, he has more upside for the year. Against one of the best secondaries and playing on a running team, I'd say bench him this week. Go with Gaffney this week.

Yeah obviously Marshall is the season starter but for this week, I think Gaffney will be better. I'm very bullish on the 49ers which is why I have Vernon Davis and Crabtree in this league I'm talking about (and Crabtree and Gore in the Poly D/ST league), but I don't think this will be a big week for Crabtree either. Seattle has a weak D but I want to take a chance on Moss this week. The last few years, Moss has had 1-2 games a season where he blew up and did nothing the rest of the year. I just think the opener against Dallas with a precious healthy McNabb (who I think will miss 8 games or more this season) will be that one of those 1-2 big games this year.

I may change my mind between now and Sunday but I'm really thinking to go cutesy here. At the very least, I guess, it'll mitigate my opponent who has McNabb. Any thoughts on that strategy? How have people fared usually when they try to take points off the table basically by starting guys whose success is linked to someone on your head-2-head's team?

                              • In these basic scoring systems (where stats translate directly into points), points are points. Play who you think will get more. Playing a player who you think will score lower points just because your opponent is throwing to them is a bad idea.
