  • Meanwhile, Trump browbeats Pelosi and Schumer on live TV in the Oval Office over funding his beloved wall.

Admits he needs 60 votes in the Senate to pass it, so obviously it's the Dems' fault. If not, he will "proudly" shut down the government.
    Quite the negotiator.

    • Schumer's response that temper tantrums will not get him his wall was most apt. The votes just are not there and I suspect that regular people will easily understand that, as usual, it is Republicans deciding to shut down the government. When old folks no longer receive their social security checks on time, kids no longer get their supplemental food on time, and millions of government workers & contractors don't get paid on time... Well, they are going to know this is Trump and the Republicans fault. Not least because Trump has been says over and over that he wants to shut down the government.

Trump's approval numbers are now down to 37% and dropping with the reveal that he is an unindicted co-conspirator and this will no doubt make them fall further. Of course, Trump is just hoping he can change the news headlines and distract people from his felony situation but I doubt that will work.

You mean, like Trump had the higher grounds last year, when he tried the same tactics in order to have his wall financed.
Or like Trump has the higher grounds with regards to getting Mexico to finance the wall

        • Trump never takes the higher ground, he pays hookers to do that so he doesn't have to work at it.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

He took a hit for that and promised not to do that again.

So, with other words, he has no bargaining chip at hand to get the financing of the wall into the fiscal budget
(which is no surprise ... he cannot have both ... an expensive wall AND tax breaks for the rich ... his last years tax breaks already have resulted in the US debts spiralling out of control ... now the USA need to find ways to cut every corner, so that the rich can continue to pay less money to the state )

Bargaining chips have nothing to do with it. This will be decided by the voting public, and Pelosi has gone on record saying that she will not negotiate on the wall. Trust me. That's a loser. It's an extremist position and the people believe that.

                      The latest poll
A majority of Americans surveyed in a new poll said they believe President Trump should compromise on his demands for a wall along the southern border to prevent gridlock and avert a partial government shutdown.
An NPR/PBS Newshour/Marist Poll released early Tuesday found that 57 percent of respondents said Trump should compromise on the border wall, compared to 36 percent who believe he should remain firm in his demands, even if it means shutting down part of the government.
The results are split along partisan lines, with 71 percent of Democrats polled and 61 percent of independents polled saying the president should compromise.
Sixty-five percent of Republicans in the survey said Trump should not compromise on the border wall, one of his key campaign pledges, according to the poll.
Overall, 44 percent of respondents said they approve of the way Trump is handling immigration policy, while 52 percent disapprove. That number is also skewed along party lines, with 14 percent of Democrats surveyed approving of his handling of the issue, compared to 91 percent of Republicans in the sample.
The poll surveyed 1,075 adults from Nov. 28 through Dec. 4 and has a margin of error of 3.7 percentage points.
The poll was released on the same day that Trump is scheduled to meet with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) at the White House, where the three are expected to discuss funding for border security.
Trump is pushing for $5 billion to fund border security, including the wall, while the Democratic leaders have indicated they're unwilling to commit more than $1.6 billion.
Congress must pass government funding bills by Dec. 21 to avoid a partial shutdown.

                            1. Real negotiations don't happen in front of live network TV.
                            2. The GOP has controlled the entire Congress for nearly 2 years and Trump can't get his precious wall. The cost is estimated at $21.6 billion (per Dept Homeland Security), plus annual maintenance. Now he's basically begging for $5 billion. Does not say much for his alleged negotiation skills - even within his own party.

As a side note, this is reminiscent of Obama failing to pass a real health care bill when he had a Dem congress for 2 years.

You can have negotiations on camera. You are making up rules. Nonsense.

                        • We should repeal Trump's tax cuts to pay for the wall.

Trump's big mistake was not finding a way to fold his wall into the tax cut.

                        • We should make Trump pay for the wall.
