Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

Babyboomers are retiring - that's why the workforce participation rate is down.

The economy has definitely recovered from 2009. Cut the ****ing bull****.

Dept of Education on the chopping block, after the IRS and Dept of Energy? Are you an idiot? Education is a FEDERAL ISSUE.

      • Ben is a ****ing moron. Eliminating federal agencies that are necessary. You don't fix problems by eliminating federal agencies that are underfunded as it is. Here is what you do: INCREASE FUNDING TO THOSE AGENCIES. This decentralization **** doesn't work, and hasn't worked for years. Haven't we learned anything from the pissonomics from Reagan?

Oh and the unemployment rate is very low. 4.9%. It doesn't matter if the labor participation rate is down. That's because many babyboomers are retiring and leaving the workforce. Half of the decline in the labor participation rate is accounted by retirements. People reaching the age of 65. You want to force them back to work, ben?

Ben is just naturally stupid. Seriously, at least do your research before posting some outright bull****.

Boomers have the highest workforce participation. Younger folks are the ones getting laid off, not the older folks.

Yes, actually - it does matter. Some of the economic gains of the 80s and 90s came from the increase in the workforce participation of women going to work from the home. Now that trend is reversing. If the unemployment rate is not counting those who have left the workforce altogether - there is a problem with citing the unemployment rate to reflect those who are actually working.

The workforce today is smaller in total than it was in 2000. Given population growth since then, that is a problem.

          • BOOMERS ACCOUNT FOR HALF OF THE LABOR PARTICIPATION DECLINES.

Sorry I had to put that in caps. He just doesn't quite ****ing grasp the facts and he is now making up **** again.

This man is truly an IDIOT.

In a nutshell, the baby boomers have aged and are now finally retiring en masse. After bulging into the workplace in the 1970s, women are no longer the force in the labor market they once were. Younger people are opting to educate themselves rather than work. And a less-than-friendly tone toward immigrants is shrinking the supply for some high-skilled jobs.

All told, it's likely to be a drag on the U.S. economy for years to come.

The U.S. economy has created 11.5 million new jobs during the last 57 consecutive months of domestic labor force expansion. And there were nearly 5.4 million open jobs at the end of May – more than twice as many vacancies as there were six years ago.

            ---

Oh and this source is from last year. There are even more jobs created since then.

If they are 'underfunded', then you eliminate them because they are unnecessary altogether. Education is not a federal responsibility. DOE is not a very old agency - and there's zero consequences - aside from saving a ton of dough by eliminating it.

Then why is workforce participation higher for the 50+ group than it is for the 30+ and 40+ group?

                • Lying liar Ben is still at his lies.

Older people have lower labor force participation rates than younger adults, so aging baby boomers are pushing down overall participation.

This aging effect accounts for more than 40 percent of the decline since the onset of the Great Recession.

An aging population also lowers unemployment slightly because older individuals who remain in the labor force are more likely to have a job.

The aging trend will continue for the rest of the decade and will show up in monthly labor force statistics.

                  ---

Don't speak out of your ass, Ben.

                  • The participation rate isn't HIGHER for older people than younger adults. Ben stop being stupid. I just posted sources showing my case. Including one from an .EDU website.

Less young people are working because they are choosing to pursue college educations thanks to increasing levels of funding available to do so. It's called having an educated population.

                    • Baby boomers' retiring accounts for about 1.6 percentage points of the fall.
From your own source. The decline is from 68 to about 62, so 6 points. That's not even a third of the decline.

The residual effects that the other declines in participation can’t account for are the decline for prime-age working men – those 25 to 54 – since the 1950s and for prime-age working women since the 1990s

And again - the majority of the decline is in non-boomer men over 25 and under 50. Contrary to what you just posted. From your own sources.
