Friday's referendum saw 62.1 percent of Irish voters say "yes" to changing the nation's constitution to define marriage as a union between two people regardless of their sex.

It's very sad. We can expect Christians, and Catholics in particular to have this rammed down their throats. Next up, bans on any Catholic church refusing to cooperate. Plus, oh, the usual confiscation of church property, etc. We've all been here before.

That leaves us to conclude that of the 62.1 percent, 25 percent came from Non-Catholics, and 37 percent of the Catholics supported it.

Catholic vote was 37-63 against gay marriage.

Even if we assume 84 percent is the correct number (which it's not, given the sample's urban bias), that would gives us 47-53. The Catholic vote did not provide majority support, even by the 2011 numbers (which are not the same as the others).
