I could have stated that plurality will win out, but the attitude here is the exact opposite. After the 50k fine of a Florist who simply refused to do wedding (but didn't refuse selling flowers to gay people), the shot has already been fired. Now we're getting to the point where the folks who do collaborate, but have the temerity to be openly Christian and in business are also being targeted.

The result will be very quickly shown that the goal isn't to accommodate, isn't to tolerate, but to suppress and attack. It's been very quick. Unfortunately, I'm probably just young enough to see the whole end game play out.
leaving aside the unworkable historical analogy (16th century society is rather different to 21st century society), your attempt to portray yourself and others of your ilk as martyrs is highly amusing. the end game, as you call it, is not to kill catholics or similar, but to make your bigoted views on homosexuals irrelevant in terms of public policy and unacceptable in polite society. this has happened in many places and is happening in others. you are being reduced to a historical curiosity, like slavery advocates or anti-suffragists. they lost the argument too, and for the same reason.

    • Ireland same-sex referendum set to approve gay marriage

Early indications suggest the Republic of Ireland has voted to legalise same-sex marriage in a historic referendum.

More than 3.2m people were asked whether they wanted to amend the country's constitution to allow gay and lesbian couples to marry.
Government ministers have said they believe it will pass, while prominent "no" campaigners have conceded defeat.

Counting started at 09:00 BST on Saturday morning. An "unusually high" turnout has been reported. A result is expected by mid to late afternoon on Saturday.

      Conceded

If the change is approved, the Republic of Ireland would become the first country to legalise same-sex marriage through a popular vote.

Minister for Equality Aodhan O Riordain said on Twitter: "I'm calling it. Key boxes opened. It's a yes. And a landslide across Dublin. And I'm so proud to be Irish today."

Minister for Health Leo Varadkar, who earlier this year came out as the Republic of Ireland's first openly gay minister, said the campaign had been "almost like a social revolution".

Speaking from the Dublin count, he told Irish broadcaster RTE that it appeared about 75% of votes being counted there were in favour of legalising same-sex marriage.

Some prominent "no" campaigners have already conceded defeat.

David Quinn of the Iona Institute, a Catholic group, said it was "obviously a very impressive victory for the 'yes' side". "Obviously there's a certain amount of disappointment, but I'm philosophical about the outcome," he told RTE. "It was always going to be an uphill battle - there were far fewer organisations on the 'no' side, while all the major political parties were lined up on the 'yes' side and you had major corporations coming out for the first time to say how we should vote on a particular issue."
only 22 years after ireland decriminalised homosexual acts, it seems that the irish people have voted for marriage equality. great news.

          1. I'm not championing polygamy. For the third time, I do not support polygamy.
          2. Since when were forced marriages the norm for Muslims? And how is this even applicable to Muslims in consensual marriages?

You're arguing that consent is an optional add-on for marriage? That's what muslims believe.

Isn't that the logic you've been attempting to use all along. That one marriage that wasn't even Catholic represents all Catholic marriage?

It's very sad. We can expect Christians, and Catholics in particular to have this rammed down their throats. Next up, bans on any Catholic church refusing to cooperate. Plus, oh, the usual confiscation of church property, etc. We've all been here before.

No, I was never talking about catholic marriages in particular. You claimed there's no such thing as marriage without sex, didn't you?

You weren't asking about "catholic marriages" here. Just marriage. Any sexless marriage is a valid counterexample whether they're catholics or jews.

it's certainly a sad day for bigots. i predict a lot of whining and references to slippery slopes.

Are you making the distinction, in that you're willing to deny them marriage licenses?

Yep, marriage requires conjugality. I wish I could seem surprised that folks who are so huge about sex would see it, but it never ceases to surprise me that the only sex y'all are against is sex in marriage.

So, to reply back to you, you're saying the marriage of Joseph and Mary - you're accepting it as fact she wasn't pregnant by Joseph, but by the Holy Spirit?

You covet our property, so I fully expect you to try to arrest us and steal it from us. Like y'all did before. Since, if we say NO that's the ultimate sin.

Forced marriages shouldn't be legal. That's a strange question.

I'm not the one who is a catholic who insists there's no such thing as sex without marriage. I have no opinion on who impregnated Mary.

But they are. That's the problem. You're stating that Islam has marriage, but they believe that consent is optional. Are you going to deny marriage licenses when one party claims they are 'married'? The correct answer is that Islam doesn't have marriage.

You're the one arguing that she didn't which has me amused. You're presumably the atheist here. Do you believe in the Virgin Birth?
