Except that a) it wasn't on American soil, and b) you may remember a somewhat more significant invasion force burned down the White House.

You really are the single worst 'historian' in human history.

      In 1812?

That was a punitive raid in reprisal for the raid on York. The British immediately evacuated. They didn't even award medals for it. Santa Anna put an army of 6k men together to retake all of Texas. That doesn't even include Urrea's 1,500 men at Goliad.

You were aware that the British didn't even consider it significant?

          • If you genuinely think that the burning of the American capital wasn't considered significant, then you are a moron. Seriously, you should actually be ashamed to be alive, let alone to hold a history degree.

Of course what you're actually doing to to try and distract attention from the fact that you supposedly teach Texan history yet you referred to the Battle of the Alamo as taking place on American soil. If you're going to try and distract from one stupid mistake though, you should probably try and avoid doing it via another one.

Given the ongoing War of the Sixth Coalition? It was a sideshow. The British cared far more about Lisbon than DC. That is why they outfitted a punitive expedition with the intent of a raid, not an invasion.

I said that it was the largest invasion force on American soil. Still is. 7500 may not be much, but it's more than in the 'war' of 1812.

America wasn't dumb. They fought that war while the British were tied up with France and Napoleon.

Try and focus. Burning a countries capital city is a more significant event to that country than some little pissing match between two countries next door.

                  • As far as I'm concerned is that if his students don't understand the importance of MLK, then Ben has failed in his job to teach them that. And its very telling to what he considered more important to teach.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Are you saying that Toussaint L'Ouverture is less important than Dr. King? He's a big reason for the Mexican revolution in New Spain which is just a tiny bit important for Texas. Just a smidge.

Nah. The worst place is a public school in Chicago's south side.

At the time, that's what it was, a pissing match. Where were Britain's armies? In Spain. What were they doing? Fighting Napoleon.

If Britain cared so much about the United States, why did they not shift their armies to America?

Except that it wasn't an invasion of American soil you idiot
My present map shows Texas is considered part of America.

, it was an invasion of Republic of Texas soil.
It's the largest invasion on American soil, which is correct, fwiw. On, not of. Learn to read English.

Something which as a historian in Texas you really should have known. Unless of course you're really, really bad at history.
And yet, you've conceded that it is the largest and now you're showing you need remedial English help.

Believe me, the teachers there are MUCH better than you.

My sister taught on the south side for several years. She's a real teacher. Or was. She has a double Master's in Education.

The problem with areas like that aren't the schools (though, they are severely underfunded/mismanaged).

Let me guess, every one of your kids comes from a stable, two parent household.

She had... one? or two? kids who came from such situations. The vast majority of her kids were foster kids and homeless kids. The rest usually lived with a grandparent.
