Texans had to be introduced to Texas. Texas was sparsely populated and the Mexicans wanted people there to help against Indians raids in the interior. The Texans were American settlers that brought slaves with them.

My point is that the supposed 'Land of the Free', was exporting slavery to areas that did not have it at the time. Like Texas.

Austin argued that it was crucial. It wasn't. People would have came to Texas anyways for the cheap land and good growing climate. Why would you believe Austin when evidence abounds that it was totally unnecessary? He only brought 300 people in. Do you think that they couldn't find 300 other people to come to Texas?
