years ago, I once failed to remove a small plastic protector from a new CPU I just installed

I turned the machine on... I will never forget that smell

20 years ago, when I was a Boy Scout, my fellow scouts set fire to a spider. I've completely forgotten that smell, because my olfactory sense is terrible (so I think my brain has allotted very few neurons to smell memories), but I do recall it being quite possibly the worse smell I'd encountered up to that point in my life, and for quite awhile afterward.

years of catbox cleaning has given me a lot of tolerance for awful smells
