You're not Facebook buds with me; you have not seen my ranting posts on my Facebook recently about idiots who think Republicans are going to suffer in 2014 and 2016 elections.

I try explaining gerrymandering, super PACs, and relationship between congresspersons and corporate interests to others on Facebook, but to no avail.

This isn't true. Harry Reid passed a budget this year and it was Senate Republicans that refused to let it go to conference committee where it could be reconciled with the House budget.

So Harry Reid appropriated Congressional authority to compose a budget rather than pass the budget presented to him by the House. It's not the job of the Senate to write up the budget. Power of the purse belongs to the House. Or at least did until Boehner capitulated and gave Obama his Blankovollemecht.

We don't divide the functions of our government like the US, that kind of thing doesn't happen here. For a budget vote to fail (the vote doesn't even take place until months after the fiscal year starts) the party in power would basically have to have already lost its majority, which would likely have already caused a new election. It's not comparable to the US system.

Benghazi had a visible impact on Clinton's poll numbers. She went from somewhere north of 70% approval down to below 60% in a job where something like 90% approval is common. So no, it's not all about people who watch Fox News Channel. Maybe if our supposed British "conservative" got his information from something other than left-wing American blogs he would know this.

No-one outside the right wing echo chamber gives a **** about Benghazi. On the back of badly run wars that cost thousands of lives suddenly the GOP expected people to become furious about a terrorist attack in a newly liberated country that killed a handful of people. Yeah, ok then..

They've already suffered fallout, as you'd know if you listened to the moderate Republican posters here who have been pushed away from the party over the last few years. It's one thing to maintain a healthy cynicism, but it's foolish to pretend that actions do not cause reactions. It's only a few years ago that the Dems took a clean sweep of congress, and nothing since then has prevented that from happening again. It's slightly harder after the last round of gerrymandering, but it's certainly not impossible.

The real question is whether the GOP understand before next year that they need to turn their game around, because if they don't accept there is a problem in the first place, they are going to lose very hard.
