Anyone who seriously thinks the Republicans are going to suffer from any fallout as a consequence to their behavior in U.S. Congress the last eight years is fuckin' stupid.

You're not Facebook buds with me; you have not seen my ranting posts on my Facebook recently about idiots who think Republicans are going to suffer in 2014 and 2016 elections.Originally posted by gribbler View PostDid you make a typo or a somewhat accurate statement?
I try explaining gerrymandering, super PACs, and relationship between congresspersons and corporate interests to others on Facebook, but to no avail.
I'm a liberal, but I'm not a starry-eyed, gloating, clueless liberal. I like the IDEA of Tea Bagger-type Republicans suffering the consequences of their behavior in U.S. Congress but again - it's not going to happen.A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

Hey, Captain Kirk - Obama called. He wants you to change party registration to R - *****.No one will remember Benghazi in 2016 and Hillary's exemplary service as Secretary of State will be an advantage for her as she runs for President.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

So Harry Reid appropriated Congressional authority to compose a budget rather than pass the budget presented to him by the House. It's not the job of the Senate to write up the budget. Power of the purse belongs to the House. Or at least did until Boehner capitulated and gave Obama his Blankovollemecht. This isn't true. Harry Reid passed a budget this year and it was Senate Republicans that refused to let it go to conference committee where it could be reconciled with the House budget.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

We don't divide the functions of our government like the US, that kind of thing doesn't happen here. For a budget vote to fail (the vote doesn't even take place until months after the fiscal year starts) the party in power would basically have to have already lost its majority, which would likely have already caused a new election. It's not comparable to the US system.Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostWhat? It would - that's how Westminster works. If Supply fails - then there's a new round of elections.
You are very stupid.Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostActually, the demographics aren't too bad. White liberals are pretty much driving themselves into extinction. No kids = no future.

Wow, you and HC must be twins, because you just repeated the same stupid bull**** he did just a page or two ago. Well done.Originally posted by regexcellent View PostOh hey it's Kentonio pretending to know things about American politics again! The growth of minorities won't be enough by 2016 to matter unless it's as close as last time (where, remember, the Democrats held on by the skin of their teeth). And for every point democrats are gaining among women, they are losing among men (who vote more), making that shift totally zero-sum.
No-one outside the right wing echo chamber gives a **** about Benghazi. On the back of badly run wars that cost thousands of lives suddenly the GOP expected people to become furious about a terrorist attack in a newly liberated country that killed a handful of people. Yeah, ok then..Originally posted by regexcellent View PostBenghazi had a visible impact on Clinton's poll numbers. She went from somewhere north of 70% approval down to below 60% in a job where something like 90% approval is common. So no, it's not all about people who watch Fox News Channel. Maybe if our supposed British "conservative" got his information from something other than left-wing American blogs he would know this.

They've already suffered fallout, as you'd know if you listened to the moderate Republican posters here who have been pushed away from the party over the last few years. It's one thing to maintain a healthy cynicism, but it's foolish to pretend that actions do not cause reactions. It's only a few years ago that the Dems took a clean sweep of congress, and nothing since then has prevented that from happening again. It's slightly harder after the last round of gerrymandering, but it's certainly not impossible.Originally posted by MrFun View PostAnyone who seriously thinks the Republicans are going to suffer from any fallout as a consequence to their behavior in U.S. Congress the last eight years is fuckin' stupid.
The real question is whether the GOP understand before next year that they need to turn their game around, because if they don't accept there is a problem in the first place, they are going to lose very hard.

Umm, you've forgotten that Canada runs under Westminster? We don't divide the functions of our government like the US, that kind of thing doesn't happen here.
Indeed - something like the Senate (or in your case, the Lords), failing to pass supply would never happen. Failure to pass supply results in a non-confidence motion. It would resolve gridlock like this by forcing a new set of elections. For a budget vote to fail (the vote doesn't even take place until months after the fiscal year starts) the party in power would basically have to have already lost its majority, which would likely have already caused a new election. No, I assume you are just as stupid about systems you are familiar with, as ones you are not.Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostUmm, you've forgotten that Canada runs under Westminster?
The two systems operate completely differently on budgetary issues, you just wanted to trot out that crap about new elections. What you basically just said was 'In this other system that is nothing like the one being discussed, if this happened, which it wouldn't, there would need to be new elections!'. Which is why you argued 'Westminster is not like the American system' to a Canadian. Right. No, I assume you are just as stupid about systems you are familiar with, as ones you are not.
What is crap about the true statement that Supply not passing under westminster results in immediate new elections to resolve the gridlock? The two systems operate completely differently on budgetary issues, you just wanted to trot out that crap about new elections.
Perhaps I'm making the point that there are issues with the American system. What you basically just said was 'In this other system that is nothing like the one being discussed, if this happened, which it wouldn't, there would need to be new elections!'. Err, ok then..
White liberals believe that if they bend over backwards for minorities that minorities will respect them. In reality, you're seen as complete tools. Useful tools, however.Have you stopped taking your medication or something?
Given that white liberals aren't having kids we'll soon see them go extinct. We'll all tell tales about the passenger pigeon and how they used to be everywhere.
