Al said that if someone attacks you it's okay to fight back by killing the enemy soldiers. Killing civilians is obviously wrong. I don't think he is okay with any massacres of civilians that were carried out by muslims.

    • No. All I said was that the Cyprus conflict was started by Christian Greeks. The EOKA was a Christian Greek terrorist organization that used violence to gather support for their 'enosis' (union) with Greece. The Turks responded and, following oppression of the Cypriot government, formed their own country in the North.

The way Ben characterizes the conflict as an example of some inherent strife that occurs when Muslims are around is wrong, as usual.

      • That was not clear from his post, and in THIS thread, he should be careful with such postings...!

As for the rest, good for you. Glad to see that your education system teaches you how to correct spelling.

Can you find either on a map without using google?
I know Manzikert is in anatolia and the battle of Yarmouk was somewhere around palestine. I don't know why you're asking.

And then you said it was not surprising it was a Christian, and that "the Muslims responded as they should." I find that distasteful.

Well of course, it's always the nasty Christians who strike first and the peaceful Muslims.

You just denied that Muslims ever attacked Christians in outremer. Why would you be any more right about Cyprus than you are about medieval times. Seem to me you consistantly get it wrong.

You're close, but Yarmouk is east of the sea of Galilee, in the south eastern part of Syria. Manzikert is in Armenia, not Anatolia.

                  • Of course, it's "easy" to forget that EOKA was anti-colonial/anti-british more than it was anti-muslim or anything.

Best to point out that it is in the historical kingdom of Armenia, not the modern day state Armenia.

I did. Oddly, the Cypriots targetted the British, not the Muslims as you claimed. Funny that Albert being wrong again.

Your demarcations are arbitrary. Yarmouk is in modern Syria (really, the border between modern Syria and Jordan). I'm not sure at what point you think Anatolia ceases but if we use modern Turkish borders, Manzikert is in modern Turkey, not modern Armenia.

He's using the historical kingdom divides of the time, of course.

No, they aren't arbitrary. They are significant to understanding how the middle east was organized in those times.

Yarmouk was in the Byzantine state of Syria. Not all that far from Palmyra, which in those days was just about the most powerful and significant city in that entire region.

I'm not sure at what point you think Anatolia ceases but if we use modern Turkish borders, Manzikert is in modern Turkey, not modern Armenia.
Then you need to read up on the history of Armenia. Really, you should and then you'd understand why Manzikert was so devastating to the Byzantines.
