Canada has been fairly successful with multiculturalism. Usually the second generation begin to drop the more egregious ethnic/religious/national traits, partly to rebel against their parents, and partly to 'blend in', and by the third generation are playing in bagpipe bands even though their name is Santangelo or eating bacon double-cheeseburgers on Rosh Hashanah.

They also stop inbreeding, in this sense defined as reproducing with those from the same region/nation. I have ancestors from various central & northen European regions as well as Latvia, Ireland and the UK.

I think the world would be a better place if people stopped being so insular, which puts me in direct opposition to both the Norwegian shooter and some of the posters here.

Breivik was clearly intelligent, so there's nothing to gain by raising his genes to IQ=100. The guy was also reasonably sociable (at least to his testimony in his manifest) so again there's little to engineer there.

Plenty of sociopaths are sociable, dosen't mean sociopahty can't be fixed or prevented by genetic engineering. But even if he isn't widespread genetic engineering would remove most of the real economic underpinnings of the conflict.

Also I was talking about immigrant and underclass IQs. Once their IQs are raised economic differences between ethnic groups will shrink, combine this with changes in personality changes one can expect crime to plummet to lows, as well as reduce welfare dependency to a minimum safety net and the economy will boom due an increase of the smart fraction of the population. This will virtually eliminate the causes of the ethnic conflict. When the economy is doing great and the streets are safe and the propaganda is playing even Yugoslavians thought of each other as a brotherhood of nations. Cultural competition and extinction or convergence under these circumstances don't really disturb me. Regardless of what happens Europe will be the site of a progressive dynamic civilization that will be a worthy heir to the old West.

The remark about no civil war in the next half century is weird coming from a Slovenian/Yugoslav where quite recently a civil war broke out for which perpetrators are still being arrested untill only a week ago.

How genetic engineering is going to influence economic underpinnings is beyond me.

However, the economic situation in the West is still at a peak. In the whole of western Europe people are as wealthy as they and generations before them have ever been. Anybody here could do with a whole less and still live very comfortable lifes. If anything, Norway is probably one of the wealthiest nations on the planet due to their enormous wealth in natural resources that are easily converted into hard cash as well, namely oil and gas. And they have a democratic system too boot, meaning the wealth actually ends up among its citizens and not to a cleptocratic 'elite' such as in the Arabian peninsula.

If anything, greed seems to be the prime motivation for such monstrous acts as on Utoya rather then Ideology or a certain Faith.
