Libraries are state sanctioned, so they're technically engaged in privateering. - Felch
I thought we're trying to have a serious discussion? It says serious in the thread title!- Al. B. Sure
People already have that freedom, since no one is forced to work at a union shop. If they don't like working at a union shop, they can just quit their job and look for work elsewhere.
Please explain how a mutually consensual contract between an employer and a union is slavery. Nobody is forced to deal with a union because nobody is forced to work for an employer who made a consensual agreement with a union. You always have the option of looking for work elsewhere. It's funny how you support big government if the government is interfering with something you don't like.
Are you really this stupid, or are you just toying with Ben?
Idiot. Unions aren't dying out in spite of what your corporate masters want you to think.
If you want a decent deal from your corporate masters you'll need a union. Individual workers have no chance of getting a decent deal without a CBA.
Translation: if you want to raise the marginal wage in your job at the expense of those who consume the goods you produce and at the expense of those who would otherwise be able to find employment then create a union.
Emotive nonsense like "a decent deal" disguises this very real and very ugly sentiment.
That's what, 7 percent of the total private workforce in 2004? I stand corrected.
I'm seeing 2010 numbers at 6.9 in the private sector, the highest of which is utilities at around 20 percent.
