Apologies to BK. You were right about gay marriages.

  • I thought I agreed to that point in my original post. The numbers absolutely support private education vs. public education when it comes to grades.

My concern is scientific training, particularly as it relates to Creationism vs. Evolution. My point is, if you have a rock solid science curriculum, EXCEPT THAT you teach Creationism as being valid, you are sending a conflicting message.

I'm not trying to spark a side debate, by the way - if you want that, start a new thread. I'm just expressing my opinion on the subject.

Because leaving them in orphanages is clearly much better for the kid

        I'm posting a concurrance not a rebuttal.

If there's a market for it, I don't have a problem with it. If you want to have a private school that teaches nothing but Marx, have at it. There will always be schools with solid science curriculums because parents will demand them. They will also be glad to have open curriculums where they can know exactly what their kids are going to be taught.

Personally, I'm not a creationist, and my ideal school wouldn't teach this, because I would see religion as a parental responsibility. For the same reason there wouldn't be a catechism class. But I think people who would want creationism and catechism classes should be able to choose them.

It's like comic books. If they can read and add stuff up, why do we care how they obtain those skills?

        • I'm all for allowing private education. I just think it's sad when parents enroll their children in private education/home school because they want them taught the Bible rather than science. I think you underestimate how much that happens.

Of course there is. The dictionary isn't revealed truth. It's a human-created record of a human-created language. Humans have the right to change it.

And I am sad when parents raise their children godless. Again, each to their own. I have no more say in how you educate your children as you would have for mine.

              • I already agreed to that. I'll just say that raising children as atheists does not stunt their education nor does it impact their earning/career potential, whereas raising them as strict literal-Bible Creationist etc. does do so.

And I would disagree. I think that the ethics underpinning society are essential and that having your kid as an athiest is no different than keeping them blind and having them feel their way around. I know that's how I felt. Now I look back, and things make much more sense. I'm always going, so that's why people do things this way...

                  • So, in your opinion, atheists are unethical by nature?

                      • Not strictly true. BK, as near as I can tell, believes that his religion = the welfare of the children.

BK was an unethical atheist, so he believes that all atheists are unethical. (He's an unethical Catholic now, but he won't realize this until he converts again and become an unethical Zoroastrian or whatever.)

Which really does come back to Robert Plomp's point that the legal marriage should be non religious and just the blessing at the church.

Many CofE churches already bless same sex marriages ('civil partnerships') here in the UK, and they have openly gay clergy although it's still controversial.

CofE is like a million times more modern and less retarded than the catholic church in it's interpretation of the bible though.
Whoops, posted this in the wrong thread.
