  • I don't think they are pointless, though. Because the candidates (and maybe all the characters) are going to have to make a choice between the two realities; they'll have to shun the to-all-appearances-superior Sideways world to accept the ****-sandwich of being stuck on Craphole Island.

Sawyer will undoubtedly be the toughest nut to crack, as he's destined to get another shot with Juliet in the Sideways world.

The Sideways World isn't all unicorns and rainbows for some of the castaways now, and is likely to seem even less appealing once Des shows them the love and let's them know that their world is just a sham, brotha...

I don't know about that. Several of the castaways have a chance to still be alive in the Sideways World. Or have their baby back and not be ****ing insane. I agree that Sawyer is probably the hardest get of the candidates, however.

Obviously, dead people can not choose what reality to live in.

Just like dead people obviously can't tell Hurley what to do?

            • Doc Jensen seems to understand people like me...

For Sideways skeptics, I’m guessing the episode either won you over or scared you away for good. Let me more provocative: If you’ve been a Sideways hater, and you remain one after last night’s episode, you may as well call it a wrap on your Lost interest and skip ahead to the rest of your post-Lost life.

I think I'm still in until the end, but I'm definitely leaning toward the Sideways stories being a lame idea.

              • Sideways could be setup for epic ending, I still have faith for now.

                • I thought tonight was awesome. Sideways seems to be, like Guy said, a matrixy possibility, and now it's Desmond's job to fix things. I thought this was one of the best episodes, right up there with the other Desmond eps.

I'm very happy to see Hurley take the lead next week.
                  John Brown did nothing wrong.

                    • Was George anybody before this ep, or am I hallucinating? I kept thinking he was one of the guys on the freighter.

                      • Yes. George Minkowski suffered from the same sickness as Desmond in "The Constant" and died in the bed next to Des on the freighter.

                        • Yup, he was the communications officer on the freighter, the guy who died of the time-travel sickness in "The Constant".

I kept expecting him to mention a ferris wheel tonight.

EDIT: **** you, Drake. Just for the record.

                          • God, "The Constant" was sooo much better than this episode. The fact that people are already putting them on the same level is pissing me off.

                            • "The Constant" is the best hour of broadcast television in history, bar none.

This ranks in the echelon of Lost episodes just behind "The Constant", in my opinion.

Just out of curiosity, Drake: did you prefer this, or the Richard episode?

The Richard episode. This episode had far more interesting things to say about the show's mythology, but I thought the character moments in "Ab Aeterno", while not up to the level of Lost's best episodes, were quite affecting.

Des meeting Penny tonight --> "OK, so that's how Sideways Des meets Sideways Penny."
Richard talking to Isabella --> misty-eyes
Des calling Penny in "The Constant" --> crying like a *****
