About Des getting capped? That is a pattern with characters who disappear for the better part of a season only to show up with a long flashback episode (Michael, Daniel). Granted, it isn't always the same episode, but it wasn't an unreasonable fear.

Don't get me wrong. I did like tonight's episode. I just don't think it belongs in the Pantheon.

I agree 100%.
Yeah, it was an interesting episode just because it was the DES, but I was quite disappointed with it. I had high expectations which weren't fulfilled.

And I will also agree that Dominic Monaghan rocked.

I think this might be part of my problem with both Happily Ever After and Ab Aeterno. I had really high expectations for both (Richard! Desmond!) and, while both episodes were solid and entertaining, they really didn't move me like the best Lost episodes have. I probably would've enjoyed both more if I hadn't been expecting a top-five episode.

On the bright side, at least I'm not trying to convince myself that they really were top-five episodes.

Maybe top five. Maybe.

I have a set-in-stone top 3 (The Constant, Walkabout, Through The Looking Glass), and an ever-rotating 4 thru 10 or so (including Tricia Tanaka Is Dead, Flashes Before Your Eyes, Greatest Hits, LaFleur, The Substitute, The 23rd Psalm, The Shape Of Things To Come, The Man Behind The Curtain, and The Brig, just to name a few), and I think this episode slots neatly into that second group.

I don't think any episode from this season belongs in the top-two tiers. I certainly don't think this season has been disappointing, but when you compare where we are now with where we were at this point in Season 5, you can't help but be a little underwhelmed.
