Christ himself said, that you should avoid taking a brother to court, because justice would not be served. Disputes should be settled among the brethren without recourse to the secular authorities.

Christ always drew a clear line between the secular authorities, "render unto Caesar", and between the church. Now if you asked me if the church were justified in engaging in torture, I would say no. But wrt to the civil authorities and the state, that's an entirely different issue.

The problem I'm having is the support given to the idea of torture so long as it is called something benign like "enhanced interrogation". If it will take a trial demonstrating "enhanced interrogation"" is really just torture by another name in order to get through to the US populous what exactly it is that they are still supporting then so be it.

I too would like to see specific definitions of what is and isnt torture and if and when specific methods are allowable. Thats why I support a "9/11-style" commission with non-partisan members to investigate and report on the truth of the matter. We all know that it will never be addressed by the jellyfish politicians in government.
