  • Also a bigot is someone who hates. While there are certainly some haters who are against using marriage this way, I don't think you can really call the majority of voters in Cali "bigots".

    • "Bigot" is applicable to more than just racial issues.

      • So the majority of voters in Cali are bigots? I don't buy that.

        • Those who voted to ban gay marriage are bigoted in regards to homosexuals.

            • Calling everyone who wants to protect traditional marriage a "bigot" is smart PR.

I'm not worried about "PR". Especially not on Apolyton.

Wanting to protect traditional marriage is fine. Wanting to do it by preventing gays from marrying is not. But I do prefer the terms "moron" and "idiot" over "bigot." I have yet to see or hear an intelligent explanation of how, exactly, two people of the same sex getting married impacts the marriages of straight couples. And I agree that not everyone that votes gay marriage down does so out of hate, ignorance is quite sufficient an explanation.

                    Nothing really means anything here.

This doesn't make any sense. Allowing homosexuals to marry would spell the end of the traditional definition of marriage.

                      • No, it would "update" it.

Just as when we (at least most of us) stopped marrying off our daughters at ~13 regardless of her will (and/or in exchange for goods) we redefined "traditional marriage".

Just as when we dropped the "right" of a husband to beat his wife (or enacted regulations as to the size of the beating device) we redefined "traditional marriage".

No it wouldn't. Men and women could still get married. Gay marriage in no way changes anything about straight marriages or relationships. I just changes things in gay relationships.

                          • Marriage has traditionally been reserved for one man and one woman. If you allow homosexuals to marry each other, the traditional form of marriage has been replaced with something else. This isn't that complicated.

Call it whatever you want. You're still replacing traditional marriage with something different.

The "traditional form of marriage" will still exist. Another form of marriage will also exist. The definition of what qualifies as marriage will have been updated to include both.

The point being that if you define "traditional" as something which has always been the case, we have no "traditional" marriage anyways. The tradition of marriage has evolved over time.
