  • If impatient lazy ****headed activists had not, in concert with dishonest judges, galvanized opposition by usurping the regular processes for amending constitutions, gay rights would not now be facing marriage amendments to overcome.

Technically, its assault and if she sues, she'd get like the cost of her sign or something, but its akin to someone walking into a non-smoking bar and someone smacking the cigarette out of the guy's mouth. Technically assault, but its stunningly stupid behavior on the part of the assaultee.
First of all - if someone is smoking in a non-smoking bar they are breaking the law. But I certainly wouldn't smack it out of their mouth. IF it bothered me I would either ask them not to smoke or ask the manager of the place to enforce the rules.

This isn't like going to a McCain rally holding an Obama sign, a group of individuals on private property to hear someone speak. It would be more like when the Florida recount was going on and both sides expressed there point of view in front of the voting precinct. If one side had attacked the other there it would have been wrong. This is public property. She broke no laws there, she's a taxpayer I assume, so she has a right to stand in front of City Hall and express her opinion as much as anyone else there..

But this is just a matter of decency and common sense. She's a little old lady carrying a cross. What shocked me the most wasn't that there were 2 or 3 hotheads assaulting this little old lady because they didn't like her point of view. What shocked me was that no one else in the crowd tried to restrain the people assaulting the little old lady. This is the group that demands culture change to accommodate their lifestyle and yet not one of that group will defend a little old lady when she is being attacked by a group of men.

I certainly wouldn't use this clip as a PR video for the "movement"

You can spin this anyway you want Imran but, if you are seriously going to defend that, I have just lost some respect for you.

          You're being deliberately obtuse.

The change I'm protesting with Proposition 8 is that such change takes away other people's rights - including the 18,000 gay couples in California who had already married.

My changes that I'm advocating would not take away other people's rights, since equal marriage protection would not force churches to marry gay couples.

If it had been a hulking 30 year old male, you wouldn't be nearly as upset.

I get a sneaking suspicion that this lady was hand picked for this exact reason. Notice the 2 gentlemen that came with her disappeared really quickly.

A system that can grant rights can also take them away. The majority has the ability to do both in a democratic society. If you don't like that, move somewhere else.

              • Again BK, marriage is a civil right that comes with something like more than 1,000 privileges and legal protection.

The Supreme Court believed that this right was so compelling that it ruled against discrimination that prohibited interracial marriage.

                • No one is going to use it as PR because people get all offended and halfwits like Ben use it to say that MrFun is like that, but I have always been of the opinion that people who don't want to get their hands a bit dirty at a counter-protest are delusion idiots. On some level, though, I didn't even think that perhaps this woman was a bit more intelligent than I gave her credit for (or her group): send an old lady out there to piss all these guys off and then claim the entire gay rights movement hates little old ladies. I can see it being planned with the final action being something desired.

Most of the voters, regardless of where they sit on the substancive issue of gay marriage KNOW that the Mass. and Cali. constitutions did not allow gays rights when written, did not magically morph into protectecting gay marriage without amendments, and that the courts imoproperly usurped the process for changing them because they felt society was moving too slow on the matter. Well, society does not like being usurped by lying bastards, even for a good cause. You can count on several % of the California vote for prop 8 being because of that. I support gay marriage being legalized, I speak in favor of it, if it came up legislatively or by regular amendment procdess, I would support that. I oppose liars and cheats usruping political functions. (If I had been in California, I would have not voted on prop 8, being against the substance on restricting marriage, but also being against the process and that brought it there). If gay marriage proponents had used patient political and social processes to advance their cause, they would not have seen most of these marriage amendments and they would be approaching their goals in some states. By the bull**** back door changes to the constituions, they had set their causes back a generation. Patience is hard when you are being denied, particularly for couples who do not have have years to wait, but winning beats losing.
You probably would have been one of those well-meaning people writing a letter to Martin Luther King Jr. during the civil rights movement of 50s and 60s, arguing that he should be more "patient."

They woke a sleeping giant of conservative values. It was the old stab in the backaroo, leftist minority style.

I suggest that the gays and lesbians should...

                      1) never assume. Getting out the vote is great only if they vote for **** you like.

                      2) really should come home to the Republican (USA USA USA) party.
                      You are so right...

These other folks are missing the big picture, the first great crack in the leftist powa facade. You put your finger right in it. What's your name again? Oh hey, look at that. There's two of us.

Yep... as my above post, I came to that realization too... Hell, wouldn't be surprised if those 2 guys smacked down that sign and then ran away. If so, that's even more brilliant. I can appreciate political theater like that... makes me respect the old lady more than if she was just some idiot who thought she could carry that big cross in there and it'd be all hunky dory.

To take away rights from a minority is not democracy - that's tyranny and opression.

                            Wrong.

It's clear that you don't support democracy; you'd rather have an oligarchy run by judges. Nothing wrong with that, as long as you set it up somewhere other than America. Good luck!

Funboi, you are playing into his trap. Democracy means rule of the people, if the people want to take away rights, that's Democracy.

It's not LIBERAL Democracy, but that's different.
